Big Gunpowder Falls Wildlands Loop followed by Dinner at Gunpowder Lodge

Wildlands map:
http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/pdfs/GFSP_big2.pdf

Meet at the lower parking lot at Gunpowder lodge, closest to the river.

Wildlands is a ~4.5 mile loop that starts up hill through the forest then ends with a 1.5 mile flat hike along the river.

We will step off EXACTLY at 7:00. If you are late, txt me at 301-6five5-5327

This is a rain or shine event.

Bug spray and long hiking pants are highly recommended!

If you cannot attend please change your RSVP.  Two no-shows will result in me asking you to remove yourself from future events that have a wait list.

Dogs are welcome but they must be well behaved! I don't care if you let them off leash but you must be able to control them verbally or with an e-collar. If they trip someone up or act out I will ask you to put them on leash.

This is cross posted with the 20s and 30s hiking around Baltimore meetup group.

If the group wants we can go to Gunpowder Lodge for dinner afterward. They are used to hikers coming in and stinking up the place.  But I still recommend bringing a dry shirt to change into  :)

    Hi Wayne,
I realized that 4+ miles was going to be too much for me. I wasn't feeling that great on Wednesday but I did kick butt and got there, probably just a short time after you all left. I missed the turnaround and wasn't familiar with accessing the trail from where the Lodge was so I went across the road and did the blue trail. But just a mile. I was going to leave a msg on a blue Subaru but was not certain it was yours. It had a colored string of rings handing in car. Was that you?

Great job on the hike everyone. We kept up a strong 2.5 mph pace and covered about 4.5 miles. This one will be a regular. In 2 weeks we'll start trail running this trail so sign up if you want to push yourself.

I will also start offering this as a night hike as the days end earlier.

Hope to see everyone back again!

Hi everyone. Looks like we have a good size group tonight. Nice! Pear make sure to update your rsvp if your plans change. And bringing cash for dinner helps a lot when the bill comes. GPL ain't the cheapest place especially if you have a few blue moons. See everyone tonight...

I just made a reservation for 15 people at the lodge around 8:30. I'll let them know as we step off how many are definitely going to stay for a bite to eat after the hike. If it's not too hot we can use the deck. That would also let those with dogs keep an eye on them.

Looks like we're going to have a nice turn out for this event. 19 total RSVP's between the two groups. Just a reminder on my no-show policy. If you no show twice I'll remove your RSVP from any future event that has a wait list. So please make sure to update your RSVP if your plans change. Also, I just posted this hike again 2 weeks from now but with some trail running mixed in. Hope to see some of you there.

Do you expect to be back at the lodge before dark?

I so frightened of the dark! Will bring my very own head lamp too just in case!

I ain't buying it. I don't thing you're afraid of anything Kathy. Btw if I can get things worked out with DNR I plan to start doing this as a night hike regularly too. Fingers crossed the rangers are feeling generous. :-)
