  • Harper's Ferry Old Town

Hike 3 miles down the C&O canal with a gradual climb to Weaverton Cliffs.  The view on the Cliffs is spectacular with the Potomac River flowing close by. Bring a lunch or snack to eat on top of the cliffs and enjoy the view. The hike is rated as Moderate and is about 7.5 - 8 miles total. Optional lunch in Old Town Harper's Ferry after the hike. In addition, tour of the Old Church, another lookout and a historic graveyard in Harper's Ferry after lunch if anyone is interested.

Directions from Baltimore: 70W -> 340 S (towards Charlestown) -> R @ 1st road after the bridge near Harper's Ferry. Go down the street until dead end, make a left and in 2 blocks a right into the Amtrack Parking Lot. There is a $10 fee and car pooling is encouraged.

Dumb question but i'm still new to the area, there are two park and ride on I 70. One is in Cooksville off of I-70 at Frederick Rd & MD 97 - 19 spaces. The other one is in Woodbine I-70 & MD 94 - 42 spaces. Which one are we going to?

I would strongly advise to car pool to this event. We will meet at the I70 park and ride at 8:20 and depart at 8:30. Lunch on the deck afterwards and optional walk to the historic church and another overlook a few minutes up the trail from the church after lunch. Bring a snack to eat at the Weaverton Cliffs overlook. We will stop at the overlook for about 20 minutes.

I suggest that everyone carpools since there is a $10 fee at the Amtrak station and to split the cost of gas. We will be meeting at the Rt 70 Park & Ride located at the end of Rt 70 @ 8:30 AM. Take 695 to 70 East to get to the Park & Ride.

OK, Kathy. I go past Towson, so that's convenient. You are in!

    August 7, 2013

  • Paul D.

Me too, Diane, I know where it is, but I couldn't give you directions by road names. I know it's the Park and Ride just off Rt 70 and 695.

  • Kathy T

I am interested to carpool, coming from the Towson area.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
