RESCHEDULED TO 12/21 - Hike & Sip Sugarloaf Take III, 10 MILE DIFFICULT HIKE

RESCHEDULED TO DEC 21, 10:00 BECAUSE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.  The rocky trails can be dangerous if there is ice.  It's not worth anyone getting hurt.  See you next weekend!

Let's hike scenic Sugarloaf mountain and sip some wine at the nearby Sugarloaf vineyard.

We will meet at 9:45 and step off promptly at 10. We will hike the 7 mile yellow Saddleback Horse Trail and hit some of the purple trail to make this a 10 mile hike.

WEAR COMFORTABLE HIKING CLOTHES & SHOES, HIGH TOPS PREFERABLE. BRING WATER & SNACKS.

THIS IS A DIFFICULT HIKE, ONLY EXPERIENCE HIKERS PLEASE MEANING YOU HAVE HIKED AT LEAST 6 MILES OF STRENUOUS/DIFFICULT HIKES AND CAN KEEP A 2.5MPH PACE. MEET AT POTOMAC OVERLOOK PARKING LOT, THE 3RD LOT YOU WILL COME TO AS YOU DRIVE UP COMUS ROAD.

For those of you who have not been to Sugarloaf it is a fantastic and scenic workout.  Elevation: 1,282 ft.  Vertical: 800 ft.  Geologically, Sugarloaf is known as a monadnock, a mountain that remains after the erosion of the surrounding land. Here, that process took approximately 14 million years. The rugged cliffs on the summit are composed primarily of quartzite, the predominant type of rock on the mountain.

A trail map can be found here:

not to scare anyone from going... but the national Weather SvC, just issue a winter Storm warning for this weekend, Beginning Friday through Saturday Night (we all know how accurate the weathermen are, but still worthwhile to at least mention):

"Saturday Snow before 4pm, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet. High near 32. East wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Saturday Night Rain or freezing rain, mainly before midnight. Low around 31. East wind 6 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday Partly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph."

Hi Tina. I live in Elkridge and plan on going on the hike, depending on the weather. You are more than welcome to join me. However, I may need to swing by Montgomery Mall off of I-270 to pick up my friend. Let me know. Brian
