  • Rock State Park

  • We will do a circuit of trails that are Moderate to difficult that includes some rock scrambling. Total distance will be less than 6-7 miles. The scenic woodland trail explores ridges and valleys surrounding Deer Creek. Trail provides access to nearby King and Queen Seat rock formation with impressive views of Deer Creek valley below. Historical carvings in the rock formation date from the mid 1800's. The trail passes former La Grange Iron Works and Rogers Furnace site and quarry site. Deer Creek is a popular put and take trout fishing stream. The King and Queen Seat was a ceremonial site for Susquehannock and Mingo Indians.

Park in the rapids parking area on Route 24. We will take the purple blazed trail from the parking lot to the white blazed loop trail, walk the blue trail and loop back to the white blazed loop trail back to the King and Queen Seat. Bring water and a snack.

The park is located in northern Harford County about 30 miles north of Baltimore and 8 miles northwest of Bel Air on Route 24. From Baltimore, take I-95 north to Route 24 north exit. Continue north on Route 24 through Bel Air, Rock Spring, and Forest Hill. The Park is located approximately 5 miles north of Forest Hill.

After the hike let's all go get something to eat together!

I used Rock State Park as training before climbing Mount Everest. Does that give you and idea of difficulty? lol It will challenge you but nothing you cannot do.....

If you do one on a Sunday here, I'm in. I am working every Saturday until March, then every other Sat. Enjoy, it's one of my favorites!
