Hike Antietam Battlefield - Moderate 8 Mile

Antietam is a moderate 8 mile hike around this sacred battle field. We travel up rolling fields, along a stream, and among gorgeous farmlands in addition to seeing various monuments along way.

This is approximately a 3 hour hike and it takes 1 hour to get to Antietam from Baltimore.

There is a $6 charge for cars to park at the visitors center. Please meet at flagpole at visitors center. Please wear long pants as we may be hiking through some long grass, plenty of water, comfortable shoes, and some snacks. We will stop along the stream to eat our lunch. :)

The Bloodiest One Day Battle in American History
23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's first invasion into the North and led to Abraham Lincoln's issuance of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

Something to be aware of. Since it is the Memorial Day weekend parking may be a challenge. Today was very crowded with large groups of people and families but was lucky to find parking in overflow parking area. We arrived about 9:45am

I had the dates confused with today. Did drive out there only to realize its scheduled for tomorrow. Day didnt go to waste though. We stayed and enjoyed the park and surrounding areas. See you on another hike.

Sounds good Tina. I wouldn't mind the I-70 and Security. That's the one we've used when going out to Harper's Ferry.

Sounds exciting! Will you be posting further details about where to meet at the battlefield, commuting, etc??

Woops my bad I did not put where we meet. I must have deleted it when I reposted this meetup & edited the description. I apologize just updated the description. Thx!

It was in the "where do we meet" section. So now it's also in the description section too.
