There are rules for those attending this hike. The park rangers have graciously allowed me to host these as long as we follow these 4 simple rules.
*********** MUST READ RULES BELOW ***********
1) You must have already hiked this trail or you must be an experienced hiker. If you have not hiked this trail, email me and tell me about your hiking experience indicating distances, terrain, speeds and if you have any night hike experience.
2) We all need a light, preferably a head lamp so your hands are free. I don't care how good your eyesight is, you're not a cat. You cannot see in the dark, even with time to adjust.
3) We all need to bring sufficient water - 1 liter minimum.
4) You are responsible for yourself. If you start to fall behind, yell out to the group to stop. I will keep a close eye on everyone and have a sweeper. But ultimately you are responsible for yourself and must speak up if you have an issue.
*********** AND NOW THE FUN STUFF ***********
We'll cross the covered bridge, the Iron Bridge and do the Kingsville county park loop. This trail is my favorite trail so far in the Big/Little Gunpowder parks in the Kingsville area.
The South trail has some rocky and rooted areas you need to scramble over. I recommend hiking boots rather than sneakers to protect those ankles!
Total distance will be 6.5 miles. Please be able to keep up at 2 to 2.5 miles per hour pace for 3 hours without significant breaks.
We will step off at 7:00PM.
If something happens and you need to reach me txt or call me at:
Dogs are welcome on this hike but they must be well behaved and on lead at all times.
Long hiking pants and two layers up top are highly recommended!
If you cannot attend please change your RSVP. Two no-shows will result in me asking you to remove yourself from future events that have a wait list.
If the group wants we could grab a slice of pizza at Margherita Pizza on Rte 1 in Kingsville. This is a BYOB establishment so plan ahead and bring some libations with you. The closest liquor store is about 3 miles North of the restaurant.
There is also a Texas Roadhouse, Mountain Branch, a Mexican Restaurant and a few other places within 5 miles we can go to also.
