We're trying this again. Hopefully the weather will be cooler. The route will be quite different. We'll see the frogs, environmental center trails, Port Royal Ave, and find blackberries.
The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education has about 3-5 miles of trails open to the public and at least that many hidden trails. The surrounding area where we will hike includes really cool Port Royal Ave, the Schuylkill Trail, a bunch of hidden roads, and incredibly beautiful countryside. Of course, the main reason we hike here this time of year are the raspberries: they are everywhere if I picked the right day.
I don't want to leave out that the center is frog central and a great birding area. I once saw a large great horned owl flying around (for about 3 seconds). Hopefully we'll find several ponds full of frogs and we'll hear them croaking.
Afterwards we'll head over to Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting for some great brew and food. Its about 5 miles, 10 minutes away.
We'll explore the area for 3-4 hours starting right at the nature center. We may bushwhack a bit. There are some hills and at least one long steep hills. You might want to bring a container for raspberries. Be prepared for raspberries stops.
Caution: You should be able to walk 3-4 hours without much of a break.
You should have recently hiked 8 miles in conditions detailed above. Hills and maybe some bushwhacking.
To carpool from Hill House meet at 915 am. Each carpooler chips in $1 at the start. Email me 3-4 days in advance and receive a reply.
