Tinicum Wildlife Refuge + Dock Street Brewery Tour

Walking into the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum from modest neighborhood is like passing through a space portal to a distant land. The 8-10 miles of mostly flat pathways border a dozen bodies of water surrounded by foliage where we spot waterbirds like great blue herons, ibis, egrets, cormorants, etc. Eagles, owls, swallows, kingfishers, and dozens of other birds are often seen along with wildlife like fox, ground hogs, deer, etc. We always find a surprise like an eagle darting overhead or a water moccasin slithering through the water. These viewings always make my day.

We hike Tinicum once each season because the foliage and the wildlife change. Winter at Tinicum can be spectacular if the lakes freeze.

We'll hike for 3-4 hours covering around 9-10 miles.  Afterwards we'll head over to the Dock Street Brewing Company for great pizza and beer. Sasha, one of their brewmasters, whom I met a "Beer School" at Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting said he would take us on a tour of the brewery.

Caution: You should be able to walk 3-4 hours without much of a break.
You should have recently hiked 8 miles in conditions detailed above.

To carpool from Hill House meet at 1045 am. Each carpooler chips in $4 at the start. Email me 3-4 days in advance and receive a reply.

It was special to hike in the snow when the weather is barmy, relatively speaking of course. Nice walk and good company. Thanks for organizing, my social director, Sidney.

This is one of my favorite places and my first hike in about 6-7 weeks due to a car accident. It was good to be back and share it with my sister who is visiting. We had a great time and enjoyed the always wonderful camaraderie that these hikes provide. Thanks, Sidney!

Thanks Sidney! The weather was great to be outside enjoying the hike with everyone. The reminder of all the snow could be seen everywhere, including covering the water looking very nice. Afterwards, the Dock Street Brewery along with our tour was a nice ending to it all. Thanks for my assistance getting to the Brewery. Also, thanks for the photos posted!

I will be starting/leaving my car at RT 420 and will be using the meet up place as my 1/2 way mark.
FYI trails are still partially snow covered. And a bit muddy......especially with this warmer weather the next few days.

Been looking forward to hiking in this refuge.
Is anyone interested in carpooling from the Lansdale/ North Wales area?

Sidney, I'm interested in coming if there's no more snow, but I'll be coming by bus to the address listed, so I need to know the specific meeting place.
