THIS IS GREAT FOR THE MODERATE-FAST PACE, REGULAR HIKERS WITH STEEP HILLS and VERY FEW STOPS! We will have a great workout hills hike. The ocean views from the cliff at the end of Boat Canyon are like Hawaii, absolutely stunning!--- Boat Canyon above Laguna Beach

DEPARTURE TIME : 2:45-2:50 PM (hope for overcast else we will change to early morning)

DURATION/DISTANCE/ELEVATION: Plan on about  3+/- hours for 8.5+ miles RT, with about 2300 ft vertical gain and about that much loss.

GENERAL RATING/DIFFICULTY: Level 2+ or in between moderate and strenuous on elevation, distance and pace. Please check RATING TABLE for more info about difficulty levels (Dur 2+, Dis 2+, E 2+, S 2+)

NOTE: If we have a group signs up for shorter time and distance, that'll be about 2 hours, 1400ft gain and about 6 miles turning around before going the full lollipop loop.

ROUTE : We will meet at Gate 14 of Laguna Coast Wilderness. Since this is a residential area, we'll limit number of participants, only RSVP if you are sure to go. Boat Canyon is a ridge above Laguna Beach, after a mile uphill, we'll stop the lookout, then continue on Boat Canyon Rd to Boomer Ridge Rd before making a lollipop down Big Bend trail to Laguna CoastWilderness/Laguna Canyon 133. The back up hill Laguna Ridge trail is steep, single track less than a mile, then we'll be back down Boat Canyon Rd to the trailhead.

ESSENTIALS : wear good traction hiking shoes, bring water, snacks and flashlight. There is no shade on this hike, but a great view at sunset and nice moon rise if it's clear. Bring wind breaker or a jacket as it's still cool near the ocean.

DIRECTIONS : We meet at Gate 14 http://www.ocparks.co...
Yahoo Map or Google to Dunnegan Dr and Dartmoor St, Laguna Beach. Please map your direction before hand and don't rely on your GPS alone as the trailhead is a bit tricky to find. Dartmoor St and Hillcrest Dr signs are under the tree branches, so it's tough for first time driving here. From Pacific Coast Hwy going south (pass Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar, Crystal Cove before reach to Laguna Beach), turn left on San Joaquin St (Viejo is the next light street), right on HILLCREST DR, Turn Left on DARTMOOR ST drive to the end.
From PCH going North pass Laguna Beach turn right on San Joaquin St (right after you pass Viejo, the street with light), right on HILLCREST DR, Turn Left on DARTMOOR ST drive to the end

Thanks David for helping the group. It was a great short workout and nice to meet with Heather, Joanne and Saeed. Glad to see Todd, Stella, Joanna, Ina, Sri and Ami again :-)

By the way, I can't find Joanne's name on the list. We would never find out whether she got left behind or not, Ami :-)

Thanks for asking, Lily. Rest assured, Jo Ann and I made it back to our cars in one piece after a cool (literally as well as figuratively) hike, but I have no idea why her name no longer appears on the attendee list. :-)

Your welcome Lily. If I don't see you on a hike during the week, see you out in the desert on Sunday. BTW, I have room for one more now in my car if anyone else would like to carpool.

With a group or by yourself, Jerry? It is better morning, but the group will have more options for afternoon. We have a tough workout morning with Marlin/Mike already, so this is an afternoon workout. You usually are busy morning, aren't you?

I normally work in the morning, but not today, I will be there at 8 am with a friend who wants to do Boat Canyon. I also want to stop by Charlene's Beach Party in the afternoon

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
