The temperature when you come out of the canyon gets hot. But while your in the canyon near the water it acts like a giant humidifier and keeps things cool. Only when you rise out of the canyon or into the sun does it get hot. It is like 15 degrees difference or so.
I've been told you can take a gelicopter ride from the camground going back. Is anyone has more information -- phone nubmer/website or other info how to make a reservation /cost? I've heard it is only $70 or so. Would be fun to do on a way back.
Nataliya, temperature at Havasu Falls in October: high in the 80s, low in the 50s, the falls water is 70 degree year round, it'll be cold to get out of water after 3pm (when the sun is out of the canyon) The trail temperature is higher, but if we hike early, not an issue, it's about Peters Canyon or Whiting Ranch heat in the summer (80-90s) More info here http://www.havasupaitribe.com/weather.html![]()
Helicopter is on the time we go, cost $85/person http://www.havasupaitribe.com/helicopter.html![]()

There are 3 methods to get to the camp site or the Indian villiage. 1) hike it in < 10 miles total, 2) hire a horse/mule train, I believe at least one per day 3) helo in or out. But they don't run this till late in the morning, there is a long line, with many trips. So the Helo can almost take you as long as hiking if you start hiking in the morning. I waited 3+ hours for the Helo when I did it last time and the ride lasted about 12 minutes. They only have 1 helo.
Robert,
I need to see what other carpool option first, but I prefer to leave Thursday after work, too. Also want to back Sunday night...
Thanks for signing up to join this special trip. If you haven't met with me or not sure about your hiking level, please sign up to hike Mt. Wilson trail on Sat. Sept. 18 with us or train yourself as Mt. Wilson is a great trail for testing your ability http://www.meetup.com/HikingOC/calendar/14455242/![]()
I'll finalize couple weeks prior to going, but please indicate if you need to use the mule carrying for luggage. Will let you know if we have to book for Thursday night before the hike soon!
Thank you Kathy for checking Grand Canyon Caverns Inn. Although they have an event that weekend, they have plenty of rooms for Thursday the 30th. The rooms are $76 for one to 7 rooms; 65. for 8 to 11 rooms and 55 for 12 or more rooms. Their website has some other sleeping options. I guess our group in the range of $76/room as we'll share 2 or 3 or 4 persons/room. I'll check again with tent camping info. The suite is very interesting http://www.gccaverns.com/amentities/the-cavern-suite![]()

Update: Irma booked a room for Thursday Sept. 30 at Grand Canyon Caverns for $60. When call in to book, let them know you are with our group for discount price. If you plan camping in a tent that night as well, please also call and ask them, so you can share your campsite with the group. Let's know. Thanks Toll Free:877-422-4459 or 928-422-3223
I would like to share with someone hotel room and campsite. Is anyone made a reservation yet? Thanks. ms_NataliyaC@hotmail.com
$60 Thursday night at Grand Canyon Caverns still holds. This special rate is better than AAA discount. I just booked my room.
Lily, are we paying you in advance the entry fee, campground fee, environmental fee, etc? Also, is there drinking water once we get to the campground to refill for the hikes?
Sorry for the delay Jeff. I will send an email to the group, so check your email. I'll be in touch and get a count for those who plan to send camping gears via mule carrying next week. In the mean time, contact each other to book the room or share for Thursday night Sept. 30 as the same Jeff booked. Thanks
If anyone is willing to share a room on Thursday night, hopefully you can let me know ?
I guess some of us are still not clear about lodging for the nights we go: Thursday 9/30, you will need to call Grand Canyon Caverns booking a room or tent camping or share with those who booked. Friday and Sat. Oct. 1 and 2nd, we'll have group camping at the Canyon that I also reserved. Let me know if you still have questions. Thanks
Lily. Jim P. and I reserved a room for Thurs. night and will be backpacking in. We will stay in the campground with everyone Friday and Saturday nights. Just let us know how much it is. Thank you as always for coordinating a super trip! Cheryl

Will you be doing this trip again this year????? It looks beautiful beyond words. So bummed I had to miss this one!
Estella
It'll be so costly both time and $$ to have this trip again this year Estella, unless some other Organizers may take time for it. Thank you all for coming. Your present made the trip more special and it was cooling down for us with some rains. Thanks again to Bob, Chris, David, Dave, Jeff, Kathy, and Irma for driving and helping the group. Got 1000+ photos to go by, so will try to load them up soon...

The Havasupai Tribe has closed Havasu Canyon until at least Nov. 1.According to information from the Havasupai Tourism Office, the closure is due to flooding the canyon had been experiencing since Saturday.“We have quite a bit of cleaning up to do, said a tourism office employee who declined to give her name. Flooding caused damage to trails as well as the campground...album 2 for more photos, bet Muku can't wait to see them, and my link for your eyes http://picasaweb.google.com/nnlily![]()
I did this hike last fall, could not make this one in October. Since you appear to be doing this as a regular event. Any possibility to do it once in the Spring and once in the fall lily? Also thanks for hosting this event it was my favorite hike so far.

It is probably going to be still very hot over there, like 100+.
