Late Afternoon Hike & Cookout!
We'll hike at O'Fallon Park, and then enjoy a cookout at the park after the hike. O'Fallon Park is about 30 mins from Denver.
The cookout will be at a picnic area next to bear creek at O'fallon Park. The cost of the cookout is free! But a donation of $5.00 per person is appreciated. Bring your own beverages - water and Coors Original are provided. Please bring cash with you to the event. When you RSVP you'll have the chance to answer a question about your food preferences. The menu will include items such as chicken kabobs and veggie burgers, hot dogs, grilled veggies and chips.
Carpooling is very important for this trip as there is not enough room for 20 cars at O'fallon Park. The Morrison Park and Ride is 15 from O'fallon Park. For this hike, we will meet in Morrison and carpool to the trailhead. We are meeting at 3.45p at the parking lot across from the Conoco gas station at the northwest corner of C470 and Morrison Road. Click here for a map with directions.
FYI - On my really ghetto drawing, you can see the parking areas in relation to where we will BBQ. The river and picnic area are next to each other as the last winter slightly changed the lay of the land according to this map in 2008. There is good parking, but could fill up fast after 5.
We see folks fly fishing in on Bear Creek so feel free to bring your fishing rod! I have two rods and am happy to share and show you how if you've never done it!
Carpool Time: 3.45p for hikers, 5.45p for just the cookout
Trailhead Time: 4.00p
Cookout Time: 6.30p - 9.30p
If you are new to the group this is the perfect opportunity for you to meet fellow members. Don't be shy, drop by and say hello! Bring your friends! Feel free to come for the hike, dinner or both!
One of the prettiest parks in the Front Range. O'Fallon Park is a gem and the hike takes us through a forested area--sometimes you'll see deer or other wildlife on this hike. The hike will be about 4 miles with 920' of elevation gain, and we'll hike to beautiful views of the mountains to the west.
O’Fallon Park is part of a series of Jefferson County and Denver Mountain Parks that are connected by Bear Creek and the Bear Creek Trail. Quartz riddles the trails and butterflies alight on flowers along the five trails that weave through the park (in summer of course).

Directions to Trailhead:
From C-470, take Morrison Road west. The road passes through the small town of Morrison (watch your speed) and becomes Highway 74/Bear Creek Road. From C-470, the drive to the park is 8 miles. Just before the park turnoff, you'll see an Eiffel Tower shaped rock formation. At the turnoff, you'll see two driveways. The first driveway is a private road, the second driveway is the park entrance.
• The entrance to the park is not as clear as most parks. Look for the stone tower.
