One of my favourite historic pubs, the gorgeous Grenadier.
This lovely little pub hidden down a cobbled alleyway in plush Belgravia, has a rich (and slightly gruesome) history. Back in the 1700s it was a offices mess for the Grenadier Guards, soldiers of the the Iron Duke himself - Wellington (who lived nearby at Apsley House). Legend has it that one of these guards was murdered by his colleagues here after cheating at a game of cards.
Inside the pub is small and cute, and crammed with military memorabilia, including money (from all over the globe) pinned to the ceiling to pay the poor murdered soldier's debt.
We will be having Sunday Afternoon drinks here, and food for those that would like it.
Please note this pub is notoriously difficult to find, so please check a map before heading there. The nearest station is Hyde Park Corner.
