In 2012 I organised a meetup group called Dickens in London, inspired by the great novelist's bi-centenary and to take advantage of the many events that commemorated this. One year on I changed the group to to Victorian London to extend the thread, sometimes stretching the definition of VIctorian. Then In August 2015, as I began to exhaust the possibilities for meet ups, I decided on yet another transformation, renaming the group HISTORICAL LONDON. The possibilities are now endless- although I still have personal bias to the 19th Century.
We will visit historical buildings , museums and exhibitions. From time to time I will arrange walks. There are so many exciting possibilities... We will always end in a cafe or bar. A meetup will be arranged every 4 - 6 weeks, usually on a Saturday or Sunday but sometimes on a weekday evening. I will usually keep the group quite small (20 max). It is very easy to click and join or RSVP - that is the beauty of the web. However, the downside of this is that last minute cancellations and no shows are frustrating for me and other attendees. Also, the Meetup organisation now charges me more for having more members. I know this is corny, but please "Think before you click!"
I have decided to usually remove members who : -
• do not visit the site for more than 3 months
• do not show - it is easy to contact me via email or text right up to the last minute
• have been members for more than 6 months but have not attended a meetup (This may vary if I have not not organised very much)
