July History Happy Hour! A Taste of Maryland

Learn about the history of Maryland’s most iconic food traditions and food businesses, from Maryland Beaten Biscuits, crab cakes, coddies, McCormick Spices and Old Bay to some less well-known fare including black licorice, white potato pie, and peach fluff. A look at Native American fare will also be included. This presentation will be followed by the opportunity to taste an assortment of sweet and savory Maryland fare such as lemon sticks, Crab Chips, Otterbein’s Cookies, Jewish Apple Cake and Old Wye Mill Cornbread!

Joyce White is the foodways consultant to Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale Park, Maryland. She was the consultant for the restoration of the kitchen in Historic Annapolis’s William Paca House and is the guest curator for the Maryland State Exhibit for the Southern Food & Beverage Museum in New Orleans, LA.
