Cancellation and No-Show Policy

“To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it is woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?” ― Cicero

Cancellation & No-Show Policy

We understand that things happen and sometimes your schedule might change. However, we expect that every member will be courteous in managing his/her attendance. The following "rules" apply to all members and will be dealt with at the discretion of the organizer:

1) Try to anticipate schedule conflicts as far in advance as possible and take a minute to change your RSVP status.

2) Avoid no-showing. Any member who shows a pattern of no-showing will be removed from the group.

3) Avoid late cancelling. Any cancellation less than 24 hours before our meeting time is considered late and will be treated the same as a no-show.

4) Some events may have different cancellation policies, refund policies, etc. Always read the event description for details. If you RSVP for any meeting or event, it is assumed that you have thoroughly read and will comply with the event details.

Good attendance etiquette is not just "polite," it makes a practical difference:

  • With advance notice, another member can take your spot with plenty of time to read the book and arrange his/her schedule. Remember, for "sold out" events, a cancellation even a week before the gathering generally means that another person was deprived a spot.
  • Our venues make special arrangements to accommodate us. When the group is significantly smaller, time and food has gone to waste and the organizer looks, well, disorganized.
  • Other members of the History Reading Circle have made the effort to come out and they look forward to socializing with our community of history readers--even if we haven't finished the book.smile In other words: We miss you!
It seems that most often, those who no-show or late cancel repeatedly are members who have not yet attended one of our gatherings. Please don't be shy. We are a friendly and diverse group of people who welcome new faces and new perspectives. Also, don't worry if you haven't quite finished the book. It happens to the best of us, now and then, and you will still enjoy listening to the conversation and meeting new people.

Please email me if you have any questions. Thank you for your cooperation!
