What is your background in Philosophy? Did you major or minor in it? Take only one or two introductory courses? Are basically self-taught?

Although I did not major or minor in college in philosophy, I did complete about a half dozen courses at various colleges and universities over the years. Also I listen to and view Teaching Company materials often.

What are your philosophical interests and favorite writers?

All this changes depending on the issue, but basically I would say the pragmatists prevail. Still, having said that, I am fascinated by Spinoza despite his possible mistake in believing that reality must "correspond to our adequate ideas."

Introduction

Retired public librarian. Wide reading interests. Museums, classical music, local history. Strong Buddhist influence in my character but I'm not overly attached to it.

What william d. is saying about this Meetup Group

Having attended only once, I intend to participate regularly. The members listened well and courteously to others in the group. Their comments indicated that they were participating in a co-operative manner and this being so even when disagreeing. High rating.
