Retired, MA in Social Anthropology, describe my current interest as philosophical anthropology (why do humans do what they do), belong to 5 other philosophy meet-ups in Balt-Wash area (moderator of Socrates Cafe in Crofton), room for one more.
There is philosophy in anthropology, but it seldom involves the writers normally associated with the canon of academic philosophy. So am self-taught on that aspect.
My organizing question is "why do people do what they do?" This leads to epistemology and ontology issues as related to my cosmological model. Key writers: German Idealists, continental philosophers, Frankfort School, structuralism, post-modernism.
Thought you might find this interesting -- maybe the closest thing to philosopher-king:). 2 articles in Al Jazeera re: the Czech former president who died recently. He was a playwright and dissident before becoming president-- politics based on philosophy and reason as well as intellectual dissent.
Thanks John. No worries.
