In forming this group I had two goals: to increase my knowledge of philosophy, particularly of individual writers, and to learn more about logic. The first goal is achieved through our monthly readings and group discussions; the second is more indirect, the result of examining a writer’s arguments. I would like to bolster the process by posting, perhaps twice a month, explanations of a specific logical fallacy, starting with informal ones (because they are the easiest to understand) and working our way up to formal ones. I realize not everyone in the group is interested in studying logic; therefore, the entries will be posted on our message board, emphasizing that reading of them is optional.
I am tempted to write the entries myself but, still a neophyte, will abstain. The information will be taken from Wikipedia and specialized sites devoted to Logic.
