3 Great FREE films! – Saturday 3-Sep-2011 at 2 PM in NYC
The M.O.R.E. project is proud to present a ‘fair use’ screening of THREE outstanding films this coming Saturday 3-Sep-2011. Two are shorts and one full length film. There is NO admission fee!
The three award winning films are “The Story Of Stuff” at 2 PM, then “The American Dream” around 3 PM, and third “GasHole”. They will be shown in the back room of a great bar in Greenwich Village called “Pour George” at 35 West 8th St, New York, NY 10011 / (212) 253-2999. Take the N/R to 8th Street, the 6 to Astor Place, or the A/C/E to West 4th St.
The Story Of Stuff - http://www.storyofstu... (short)
From the SOS website, “With over 12 million on-line views, The Story of Stuff is one of the most widely viewed environmental-themed short films of all time. Since its release in December 2007, The Story of Stuff has been shown in thousands of schools, houses of worship, community events and businesses around the world.”
Annie Leonard wrote and narrated the film. She has a knack for presenting large concepts in an easy to understand, entertaining, and amusing way. The film features her speaking in front of cleverly drawn animations.
The American Dream - http://www.youtube.co... (short)
Do you know how your money is created? Or how banking works? Why did housing prices skyrocket and then plunge? Do you really know what the Federal Reserve System is and how it affects you every single day?
“The American Dream” takes an entertaining but hard hitting look at how the problems we have today are nothing new, and why leaders throughout our history have warned us and fought against the current type of financial system we have in America today. You will be challenged to investigate some very entrenched and powerful institutions in this nation, and hopefully encouraged to help get our nation back on track.
GasHole - http://www.youtube.co... (full length)
"GasHole" is about the history of oil prices and the future of alternative fuels. The film is a broad, yet detailed examination of our dependence on foreign supplies of oil. What are the causes that led to America turning from a leading exporter of oil to the world's largest importer?
The film examines many different potential solutions to our oil dependence. It also presents compelling evidence that technology to improve energy efficiency has been suppressed. It shows that people have had their careers wrecked, or even been killed for opposing the vested interests in oil and energy distribution.
If you are coming to the event, please RSVP to me, John Hechtman at firstname.lastname@example.org. You don’t have to do this – as long as we have space to seat you, no one will be turned away. But Pour George is not a huge place – it would be very helpful to have a rough idea of how many people are coming.
This screening is brought to you by the M.O.R.E. project in collaboration with Drinking Liberally and Pour George. M.O.R.E. stands for (M)edia (O)ut (R)each (E)ffort. Our aim is to create public, no fee screenings of outstanding documentary films and videos. The media we’ll present is widely acclaimed, often award-winning, and always both enjoyable and educational.
