The Hoewa'a Dallas Outrigger Canoe Club's mission is to provide our community, young and old alike, with the opportunity to experience the sport and fun of Hawaiian outrigger canoeing and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture from which the sport was born. We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect and fun competition. Our goal is to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of our club.
Club practices meet mostly at Lake Grapevine on Tuesday and Thursdays at 6pm and Saturday at 9 am. The club participates in 4-6 competitive races a year, where teams are selected by the coaching crew for each race. Plenty of flexibility in which races and which practices you can attend. Come out and join a great group.
New paddlers are invited to attend two complimentary practice sessions before deciding whether or not they wish to become a member of the club.
For the 2014 racing season club dues are still only $150.00 per paddler or $50 for an Associate Membership. Membership dues for new members are prorated as the season shortens.
*Associate members hold the same rights as a paddling member (attends meetings, events, parties, voting; they just do not paddle (by choice).
Associate members often help with race preparations, volunteer on committees, help with Hoewa’a events out of the canoe (i.e. canoe repair, painting, etc.) Associate members enjoy all the fun perks as full members do they just do not paddle for whatever reason they may have. We appreciate and could not be the club we without our Associate members.
Dues are non-refundable and are used for the maintenance and purchase of equipment, towing canoes to races, marina fees and sponsoring our two races we have in Dallas each year.
