Thank you Tamara. George and I are the other two folks going in March. As George is not on Meetup, we need to get the info to him, and his piece to all of us. Katie, do you have George's contact info and can you link him with Susan? Susan, you had offered to help George with Dropbox. If the offer still stands, that would be most helpful. And would you please send him directions to your house? Thanks everyone!

George unfortunately hasn't yet contacted me. I reminded him at our last "big" meeting. I'm willing to go to his house so that he is using his equipment when I demo to him what he needs to do. Offer still open.
Perhaps we'll see George next week at the writers guild meeting. I'll see if he'll share his email with me for that purpose...
While I couldn't find the website that I mentioned. This one came up for the US. Adds about 10 years to my real age! http://www.vintagereprints.net/names/baby.cgi?name=Susan
Hi All:Sorry I had to miss this month. The contract I am working on has a lot of needs, sometimes at the last moment - like Tuesday. I am still working tonight on the project that I was assigned Tuesday. Almost done. Anyway, I thought I had signed up for April? I know I will not be ready for March. Sorry for the confusion. Is there a slot for April, if not May is good. thanks

You did, Larry. I'm sorry for the confusion.
We had a great first session last night. Good folks with great feedback. I saw Larry this morning. He was stuck at work. He is scheduled to present next month. I will follow up with him to confirm that he will make it. We also heard form Mary that she will be moving soon. She was slated to present next month as well. Will someone on the schedule for April volunteer to move into Mary's March slot?

Sure; I'll volunteer to go, unless someone else really wants to go instead. ;)
Just wanted to thank everyone for the great critiques last night - this is an awesome group!

Yes, the feedback was invaluable for me as well.
Hi Folks,As of now, we are still on for tonight. Please stay tuned to hear of any changes. We are currently at 12 members planning to come tonight to Susan's house. Feel free to call me later as well if you need verification of our meeting and/or directions to Susan's. See you tonight :)Hugh [masked]

Since I'm not driving, I'm still up for it. But if we do have to reschedule, my space is available anytime except the first Wed of the month (Girl Scouts) and this particular month supposedly tomorrow night (Girl Scouts).
Unless it starts to ice, I will be there.
Hi folks,Susan has graciously offered her home for our critique group meeting this Tues nite (Thank you Susan) :) We will meet at Susan's starting promptly at 7pm. We have a large group, 14 members coming, so we need to be ready to begin at 7. Katie will be late getting there, so we'll ask Garrison and Tony to go before her.Again, if you did not attend the initial critique group planning session, please review the group guidelines that we discussed and agreed upon.Susan, would you please post your address and directions to your home? Thanks everyone. See you Tuesday!

1436 Hopson Downs Court in Holly Springs. From the intersection of Avent Ferry Road and 55 bypass, continue on Avent Ferry away from Cultural Center. At the first light turn left onto Piney Grove-Wilbon Road. Go 2.2 miles and turn left on to Spence Farm Road. In 0.2 miles, my house is the first house on the left. It is bright yellow. There is room for two cars to park off the driveway to the left and for four cars to park in the driveway. Once the driveway is full, if everyone would turn around at Paint Brush court, the first road to the right in the subdivision and then park on the grass in front of my house that would be helpful. Can't wait to see everyone! I'll offer a tour of the house after the meeting if you're interested.

Hi everyone, We are scheduled for our critique group next Tues. A few items we need to check in on:1) We were scheduled for the Cultural Center as we are too big for my office space (a nice problem to have). I just heard back from the Cultural Center today that they have a conflict with our time :( If any has an idea for a space to comfortably fit 13 people, please let me know. I did talk to the folks at Sips. They are happy to accommodate us next week. They do ask that we purchase something while there (no minimum). Please share any thoughts on this. I will get back to the group by Monday to share where we will meet next Tues.2) If you were unable to come to the initial critique group planning session, please review the group guidelines. You will find these on our Meetup page. Near the top of the page you will see the heading for "More". Go here and then to "files" to find them.3) Please go to Dropbox and retrieve the submissions by Garrison, Tony and Katie to critique.

re Space. I have a huge upstairs that will comfortably seat 9 on couches. If 3 folks are willing to sit on rolling office chairs (which I prefer), then we can all be in a nice circle. My home is near St. Bernadette's Church near the corner of Piney Grove - Wilbon Rd and Spence Farm about 7 min from Cultural Center. There is room for 6 cars in the driveway / parking area and lots of closed residential street parking. Girl Scouts use the space the first Wed of the month.

Any decision on what we're going to do? I'm good with either Susan's house or Sips.
0 · February 7, 2014
Either one is fine with me, too. I don't mind ordering something if we meet at Sips.
I'm fine with either, also.
Melodie, I want to make sure you know that you are still a member of the group even if you don't live in Holly Springs. Technically, I live in Raleigh. So, I hope to see you at the meetings after you're all settled. Harry

Hi, everyone, I will be moving to Cary hopefully in the next two months and will be busy with packing and then unpacking. I wish each of you the best in your careers as writers and this group. Thank you.
I just uploaded my file for review next week. This is the first chapter of a book called Hot Buttered Cornbread. The book is the first in book series call The Cornbread and Butterbeans Series.
Can we also store Dropbox rules and guidelines in 'Files'.?

Just uploaded my submission to the Dropbox folder. Let me know if anyone has issues opening it or anything.

Hi, I'm very excited to have found this group so close to home! I can't make it to the regular meetings for a few months because of my teaching schedule, but I can make the critique group meetings. How do I get the writing submissions? Sorry if I missed the info somewhere. I was involved with a critique group in Cary a few years ago and I found it very motivating. Can't wait to get involved with this group!

Hey Denise, welcome! If you message me your email address I can invite you to our shared Dropbox where we are sharing all the writings to be critiqued.
A belated welcome from me Denise! In addition to Garrison's comment about finding the submissions in Dropbox, please click on the "More" tab at the top of our Meetup page. Then click on "Files". Here you will find more detailed information about the critique group. It's required that everyone review this info before joining the critique group. Again, welcome :)

Thanks Hugh! I have read the guidelines and look forward to my first meeting!

Anyone interested in joining the critique group who did not attend our initial session, please click on the "More" tab at the top of our Meetup page. Then click on "Files". Please review the information about the group before joining us in February. Thanks!
Yes I am sorry to have to miss my first meeting with the group today but I have come down with a terrible stomach bug- sorry I hope to see you guys at the next meeting!
I am on the schedule to be critiqued. But I just found out that I may not be able to get there until 7:30. Would you all prefer that I switch off with someone else who can be there right at 7?
0 · January 8, 2014
I was hoping someone else would have an opinion. With so much going on, it helps to remain considerate of all the balls everyone must juggle. But we also have to balance setting a trend we'd have to live with as a group. Which is to say I'm not very firm on what to do. Perhaps you could contact the March Reviewers and see who would be willing to trade.

Would one of the other two people being critiqued volunteer to go first?
The 1000 word minimum is good with me and if there is time to read past that, then I would say; go for it. I know I won't have all my story/book done by April, but will have a few chapters ready to go.
I'm happy to go first or second if Katie can't make it by 7:00.
Well, if you go first or second, I can go second or first ;)
Sounds good to me.
How hard and fast do we want to stick to the 1000 word rule? That's only about 4 pages. I have a short story done for February that I would like to have critiqued, but it's 1700 words (6 pages). I can just submit the first 1000 words of it, but you'll probably be wanting to read the last 2 pages to see how it ends :-)
0 · January 13, 2014
My preference would be for you to include the whole story, but mark the point in the manuscript that ends the first 1000 words. That way, those who want to read the entire story may... and those who don't have time to read the entire story don't feel obligated. But that's my personal preference/thought... Anyone else?
1 · January 13, 2014
Personally, I'm good at anything less than 2000 words for critique.
I think Tamara has a great idea: just post as much as you want and mark it at 1000 words.
That sounds good to me! I'll put a disclaimer thing at the top noting that fact. I'd also personally rather read all of something than have it abruptly end not far from the end.
Hey, just wanted to throw this out there: one of the nice things about PDF files is that you can actually add comments and save the resulting file. I've put an example PDF where I did just that in the "Examples" subdirectory in the DropBox folder. Not saying you should do it, but if at some point people want to share comments ahead of a meeting with somebody, this is a great tool.

Got my dropbox set up. Thanks so much Garison. I found Tony's manuscript in there too. Also I read exhaustively DropBox's policy. They are clearly very hands off with content. If I can get this setup, I'm sure I can help George if he contact me!
