A strong, supportive critique team is without a doubt the most valuable asset a writer-aspiring or experienced-can have. I am very thankful to have found these wonderfully generous and knowledgable writers.

I have to miss tonight - last minute stuff for work that needs to be done tonight. Looking forward to submitting a few pages for review next time.

No worries Julia. We hope to see you next time. We actually have a structure wherein folks sign up in advance to submit writings to be critiqued. We do 3-4 per critique session. We also ask that members attend 2 critiques before they submit anything. So please come and join us, get a lay of the land, and consider submitting something later this summer. I hope to see you next month if not sooner, at the larger Writer's Guild meeting. :)

And, I appreciate the warm welcome.

I agree with both Tony and Katie. Putting our creations forward for review is an exercise in vulnerability. We all know and share this experience, and that engenders a supportive environment amongst us. All levels are received and encouraged. Spoken like a true counselor, huh?

Hugh, I see a new business opportunity for you. Counseling for Writers :-)

I just want to make sure people know that this group is a resource to assist the beginning writer as well as a sounding board for those already published or nearly published. I've spent the last week working with writers who were turned down for an anthology, and in every case they would have benefitted from attending a writers group such as ours.

With Katie, Hugh, Harry, and P.T. in this group, this is a wonderful opportunity for people to learn the craft.

In my opinion, the purpose of the critique group is to help us get our work to the next level of completeness, whatever that is. Hugh, what do you think?

Folks, not sure how everyone else feels about this, but don't think that what you present has to be 100% ready for the typesetter - if you're having trouble with a piece, getting another set of eyes on it can help you through the rough spots. Don't feel like you're throwing yourselves to the wolves - this group isn't like that :)

I'm attending, but nothing ready for critique. Aiming for something in June/July.

I hate to miss another Critique Meeting. Hopefully, I'll be able to come in June.

No worries Katie. I hope you are well.

I added my piece to Dropbox. Like Patrick, I noted the 1000 word cutoff, but included the rest of chapter 1. Several of you critiqued the first pass at this chapter a few months ago. If you're interested you can see the direction of the re-write. Thanks everyone!

No worries. I'll submit. So, it will be me, Tony and Patrick. Anyone else is welcome to bring copies to have available for a 4th critique. See you all on Tuesday :)

Thanks Harry. Garrison, you're on for June. Would you like time this Tues? If not, I'll submit a piece.

    • Garrison L.

I won't have anything ready to submit this time. Sorry!

I will be unable to attend this Critique Group meeting.

    Hi again folks,
Carolyn needs to delay her turn. Harry or Garrison, do either of you want to take the 3rd or 4th (alternative) spot on Tues? I can take either one but will defer to you two first.

  • Hugh W.

    Hi everyone,
I look forward to being with you next Tues. It looks like we may have a few new folks joining us. Patrick has his piece (titled "Prologue R") already posted on Dropbox. Carolynn and Tony are also on tap. Harry, do you want to post something on Dropbox or prefer to just bring a piece to share if we have time for a 4th critique?

Tamara is taking a break from the group, so the June submissions will be from Hugh, Garrison and Harry. Anyone in the group want to take the alternate slot for the May meeting?
