Wow! So excited to be able to step in and give this meetup a little guidance, pretty sure that I already know many of you and eager to meet many, many more. You see tennis has been one of my greatest life-long passions, I have been sharing my knowledge about it for over twenty years now, and ready to do so for decades longer!
It's obvious that this has been a rather free-wheeling meetup to date, a place for you to post your suggestions for meetup times and locations, which is awesome! That won't change. What I would like to do is offer a bimonthly Sunday evening meetup for up to eight players who would like to up-level their games through contemplating basic tips from the classic game while participating in skill enhancing drills!
Anyone that attends my groups with an open mind, ready to possibly look at their game from a slightly different perspective is usually pleasantly surprised. I think you will be as well! Usually the final half hour of any group comprises doubles play or other appropriate competition.
Beyond that, I have been conducting round robin competitions several times a year for at least the past twenty-five years. A couple of them have taken place at Plummer Park in West Hollywood in recent years, and a couple still are held at Griffith Park Vermont Canyon courts, the next of which will be either August 11 or 18, which needs to be decided post haste!
Would anyone be interested in having a round robin mixer at Plummer in mid July, say July 14 or 21 a Sunday evening, 3-5 pm? Eric always makes us have our official finish at 5 pm, but we may be able to go beyond the hour if matches are incomplete. If you are interested in this I need to hear back from you immediately! I need to reserve a few courts over there like yesterday, if we are to make this happen.
Finally, please feel free to join us at North Hollywood~North Central LA Tough~Love~Tennis Teams, where there are many discussions also underway that may answer some of your questions.
Please be in touch with me through one of the message boards, through comments or rsvp for this meetup, or through email. I will only exchange phone numbers with you through email, not broad dissemination over the www!
Finally, I see that your meetups have not charged any set amount, which is fine. The bimonthly meetups and round robins that I am offering will have a suggested, but flexible contribution request from participants, but these are offered through the 'honor system' which means that you may feel free to leave more or less according to your means of the moment and how you feel about your participation in the event. The round robins, however, have a fixed, but nominal fee. Perhaps I will expand a bit on this via discussion (message board) later today.
