Hello, friends! After much discussion we've decided to push back the October edition of our monthly meetup until early November. I hope this doesn't interfere too greatly with anyone’s attendance plans. With the holidays around the corner I’d like to propose consolidating our October and November meetings into one fall extravaganza in early November. The weekend of the 7th and the 14th and available and I would love to here your feedback regarding which would be best for you and yours. Also, how would everyone feel about moving our starting time up a bit? I was thinking with an earlier starting time we could feature a Thanksgiving style potluck lunch, still offer crafts for the kids, and get everyone home in time for a fabulous afternoon nap. Okay, I know I wishfully thinking with the napping but I would I appreciate everyone’s feedback and hope the last minute change hasn’t caused too much of an inconvenience. Peace, love, and homebirth, Tara

Hello, friends! This month's Meetup will be an open discussion about the group's needs, in order to plan for the next year. The WV Friends of Midwives group (more info at www.friendsofmidwive s.com) also needs some help, and this could be a good place to do some brainstorming about taking on some projects to promote our friends. If anyone else would like to host this meeting for a more kid-friendly location, I will be happy to send an announcement; otherwise, it will be at my house. Feel free to bring a friend who might be interested in volunteering for some midwifery/birth promotion projects - and as always, anyone who is interested in talking about birth and meeting like-minded others! Please feel free to bring a snack to share. See you soon! Peace, Love, & Homebirth, Angy

Hello, friends! Happy summertime - a great season for picnics and barbeques. Again we are shifting our schedule for vacations and changing plans, as we see that many are unable to make it for our regularly scheduled Meetup (including our organizers!). We hope that pushing back by a week, even though a holiday weekend, will allow more friends to attend. This month's Meetup will be a family picnic. Feel free to bring kids, partners, parents, grandparents, friends, and anyone who is interested in talking about birth and meeting like minded folks! We're hosting a backyard cookout with hot dogs, veggie dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, and drinks provided. Please feel free to bring a side dish, dessert, or dazzle us with your own personal specialty. Anne and Mike Sweeney have graciously offered to host us in Charleston this month. Thanks for the hospitality! Peace, Love, & Homebirth, Angy, Tara, and Morgan

Feel free to bring kids, partners, parents, grandparents, friends, and anyone who is interested in talking about birth and meeting like minded folks! We're hosting a cookout with hot dogs, veggie dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, and drinks provided. Please feel free to bring a side dish, dessert, or dazzle us with your own personal specialty. We've rented a shelter with a nearby playground, and will have a donation jar setup to help cover rental costs. We look forward to seeing everyone and getting our families together to meet and talk! Peace, Love, & Homebirth, Angy, Tara, and Morgan PS. Directions to Meadowood Parke are as follows: Take I-64 west from Charleston, exit at Institute and turn west onto Route 25. Take Rt. 25 to light, turn left onto the St. Albans Bridge. Continue straight after going over bridge and turn right onto 6th Street. Follow 6th Street until you reach West Main and turn right over bridge. Continue until the Fire Department and turn left onto Coal River Road. Go several miles, pass through Tornado and turn left onto Smith Road, crossing over Coal River. The Park is on the left after you cross the bridge.

This meetup will have a more serious, emotional topic than usual: pregnancy loss. We hope it will be a safe, open space for women and families to share their stories of loss through miscarriage, stillbirth, or the loss of an infant. It isn't 'group therapy' but simply a chance to talk openly about the experience of pregnancy loss and connect with others who have shared the experience. We invite you and your loved ones to join the discussion and be a part of this healing space, even if you yourself have not experienced this type of loss. Also, please invite others who may benefit from being part of this discussion. Feel free to bring a snack to share as we discuss our current topic and, as always, enjoy the company and support of our growing and diverse group! As always, nursing babies are welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing you all again. Peace, Love, & Homebirth, Angy, Tara, and Morgan

This month's topic will be "Recovery and Greiving through Pregnancy Losses" including stillbirths and miscarriages. We are hoping to have a professional facilitator or counselor who can help offer support and guidance to those of us who have experienced pregnancy losses at various stages. This is not meant to be group therapy, but rather informal peer support, on a "woman to woman" level, and a chance for us to tell our stories. Although it may seem to be a sad topic, we want to honor each person's experience dealing with life and death in the difficult times that the two happen together.

Please join us for the March edition of our monthly Homebirth Meetup, Saturday March 28th at 4:00pm. Kathryn Ellis has graciously offered to host at her farm just outside Hurricane, and this month’s featured topics include organizing tips for the household that is adding a new baby family member. Please bring your favorite household efficiency tips! Feel free to bring a snack to share as we have a chance to hear amazing birth stories, make new friends, connect with each other, and support our common passion for birth. As always, nursing babies are welcome to attend. On a separate note, don’t forget to check out the Sunday February 15th edition of the Charleston Gazette as it features articles detailing the amazing birth of our very own Trebor Sutler! Also we will soon hear updates from our new friends, Dave and Dainty (now 39+ weeks pregnant). Please keep them in your thoughts this week! We look forward to seeing you all again. Peace, Love, & Homebirth, Angy

Please join us for the February edition of our monthly Homebirth Meetup, Saturday the 28th at 4:00pm. Sarah DeGroff has graciously offered to host at her beautiful home in Eleanor, and this month’s featured topics include unassisted birthing and the role of government moderation in birthing practices. We’ll be featuring the discovery channel documentary “Freebirthing” and look forward to a rousing discussion and debate following the (approximately 40 minute) film. Feel free to bring a snack to share as we have a chance to hear amazing birth stories, make new friends, connect with each other, and support our common passion for birth. As always, nursing babies are welcome to attend. On a separate note, don’t forget to check out the Sunday February 15th edition of the Charleston Gazette as it features articles detailing the amazing experiences of our very own Trebor Sutler and Angy Nixon!
