Making Herbal Medicines: Salves, Tinctures, Infusions, Syrups and Lozenges

This is one of many workshops being put together by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Parks and Community Renewal. Workshops are taking place at Trailside Nature and Science Center. Trailside’s location in the scenic Watchung Reservation provides the perfect classroom for fun while learning about the environment and the natural world around us.

About the workshop:

Assemble your own herbal first aid kit that can help strengthen your immune system and assist your body to better use it’s own resources. Discover the remedies the plant kingdom has to offer and the incredible properties in common “weeds” that surround us. Prepare your own tinctures, salves, infusions, as well as syrups and lozenges, using such common plants as plantain, St. John’s Wort, yarrow, mullein, mint, willow, acorn, and elderberry. Participants will take home selected samples. Fee: $15/IC, $20/OC. Pre-registration is required for all classes.

Workshops are for adults, ages 18 and older. Programs will meet in the Trailside Visitor Center unless otherwise noted. Doors open 15 minutes before program. IC = Union County Resident, OC=Non-county resident. For additional information please call Trailside at[masked]-3670.

Julie & Eddie did a great job of demonstrating and sharing their wisdom. It would have been a nice thing to introduce ourselves if there were time. There looked to be so many interesting people!

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
