What is there to do during the long winter nights? Lets get together and make some soap!
If you've never made soap before, but have wanted to, this would be a great time to see how it's done. Soap making can be intimidating but rest assured it's a simple process that has been done at home for many years. We'll talk about different ways to make soap at home (cold process, hot process, natural wood ash, liquid Castile soap, melt and pour), adding natural & home-grown botanicals, adding essential oils, using old-time ways of collecting and cleaning used oils, etc. Please keep in mind that all soap is made through the process of soaponification which involves using lye (very caustic) and as such must be treated with respect for safety sake.
Space is limited so please try to make sure you'll be able to attend when you sign up. Please bring a healthy snack to share for after the soap making.
Place: email for address after signing up to attend
Oh, and the reason it's called Snow White soap making??? I hope to be using snow in the process for making soap that evening! (if no snow will be available, we'll use some local well-water and talk about other good sources of liquid for the process).
Here are a couple of online articles that explain many of the safe practices and overall processes involved in making soap:
