Rob describes how, four years on from his celebrated three-and-a-half-year bike Cycling Home From Siberia expedition, he got itchy feet once more. For this new expedition, his adventurous spirit led him to deepest Mongolia, setting out on foot for a very long walk back home to Hong Kong during the winter.

Rob and his long-suffering cameraman Leon proceeded to hike 3,000 miles down through the Gobi Desert and then across the uncountable mountains, valleys and cities of inland China. Along the way they crossed military zones, swam in the frozen Yellow River and walked through the China's longest road tunnel, all with unexpected results. The whole journey took over 6 months.

Rob Lilwall read geography at the University of Edinburgh and education at the University of Oxford. He is a Hong Kong-based TV adventurer, writer and motivational speaker. His expeditions have seen him travel, unsupported, on foot and on bicycle, through some of the harshest places on earth, from the frozen wastelands of the Gobi Desert, to the thick jungles of Papua New Guinea and the war-torn passes of Afghanistan. Rob is the author of two books, has filmed and presented two National Geographic TV shows, and has lectured to more than 30,000 people worldwide about his expeditions.

When not on expeditions, he is the Joint National Director of the charity Viva whose mission is to inspire lasting change in children's lives through the power of collective action. A portion of sales proceeds from the book launch will also be supporting Viva. Find out more at
