Yes sure! The group is for all skill levels. We'll try to match people up.
2/ I'm not too interested in language exchange, but I want to join social gathering. Ok?
This club probably not suitable to you. It's for language through exchange. There are lots of social groups in Hong Kong, you can find them on Facebook or Meetup
3/ Can I choose whom I want to pair up with?
No, this is not a table-for-two meetup. You have to wait for the event host to pair you up with others, you should not form a group by yourself.

5/ How does the language exchange work?
The goal is to practice in live conversation with a native speaker of the language you're learning. We'll try and split up into pairs or small groups, and then within them, take turns to chat about whatever topics interest you (eg- your work, social conversation, news etc). Each side will help correct mistakes and help the other learn. It may help to do half the time in English, half in Cantonese, but it's flexible
6/ Who attends the group?
Different people from different backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
7/ Where and how often does the group meet?
Usually, Sunday and Thursday in Central. Check the front-page for upcoming event(s).
8/ Is it free?
Yes. Usually we'll meet in a coffee shop as long as enough of us get some drinks they won't kick us out.
9/ Why there is a limit on RSVP?
We have a small number of RSVP spots and manual waitlist to keep things manageable and also try to keep the ratio of English to Cantonese speakers not too unbalanced.
10/ Why can’t I join the waiting list with iPhone?
There are bugs with meetup iPhone app. Please visit our page with browser e.g. Safari, Google Chrome

12/ Why can’t I receive any email from you?
- There are a certain number of free spots available, first come, first served
- If the spots fill up, please join the waitlist
- We manually add people from waitlist to balance the ratio if needed (unbalanced is less fun), and if it's balanced, add based on who joined first
- Members will receive a email said you're confirmed for the meeting once we put you to the going list. It is also members' responsibilities to check your RSVP status regularly.
- If people who are in the going list drop out, there may be an open spot which you can grab yourself, so keep your eyes open
- If your friends want to join, please ask them to signup and RSVP
- Please contact the host asap if you will be late, or your plans change on the day
- Please check yourself off on the attendance list upon arrival, no-shows will be blacklisted
- Recently there have been some members who arrive very late without prior notice, which is not fair to the others.
So we're adding a new rule. If someone is late more than 15 minutes without prior notice, they can't join the next meetup. If you do it 3 times can't join for a month.
If you're running late (it happens), please call or SMS the event host asap. Thanks
- Please notice that once the going list is finalised, we usually won't make any further changes. Therefore, its not nexessary to text us whether you can fill in whenever you see a drop out after the final update. We would try our best to keep ratio more well-balanced.
There are 2 reasons that you can’t receive emails from us. Your meetup.com account setting problem.
You can modify your setting by going to:
Account > Membership & Communications > Edit Communication Settings
Emails are being sent to the Spam folder. Here is the instructions for adding us into whitelist:
To whitelist email@example.com with Yahoo!, you will need to set up a "filter" after first taking the following steps:
If you find email from firstname.lastname@example.org is going to your Yahoo! bulk folder, open it and click "Not Spam"
Be sure that the address email@example.com is not in your "Blocked Addresses" list. If firstname.lastname@example.org is on your "Blocked Addresses" list, select it and click "Remove Block"
Now to create the filter:
- Open your mail and click on "Mail Options" in the upper right hand corner
- Select 'Filters' (in the bottom left corner)
- On the Filters page, click "Add"
- Select the "From header:" rule, and add "contains" and email@example.com, which tells the system to put email with firstname.lastname@example.org in your inbox and not the bulk folder.
- Click the "Choose Folder" pull down menu and select 'Inbox'
- Pick the Add Filter button
To whitelist our address with Hotmail you will need to add email@example.com to your Hotmail Safe List. Here's how:
- First, if you find email from us in your Hotmail junk folder, open the email and click "Not Junk"
- Next, check to see if if the email address firstname.lastname@example.org is on your Blocked Senders list. If you find email@example.com on your Hotmail blocked senders list, select it and click on the "Remove" button.
- Next, open your mailbox and click "Options" in the upper right hand corner
- At the top of the page, click on the "Junk E-mail Protection" link
- Next, click on "Safe List", which is down near the bottom
- Copy and paste firstname.lastname@example.org where it says "Type an address or domain"
- Click the "Add" button
- First, if you find email from us in your Gmail spam folder, select our email and click the "Not Spam" button
- Next, open an email that you have received from us
- Click on the little down-pointing-triangle-arrow next to "Reply":
- Click "Add to Contacts list"
- On the Tools menu, click Options
- On the Preferences tab, click Junk E-mail
- On the Safe Senders tab, click Add
- Add email@example.com where it says "Add address"
- Click OK
To whitelist in Thunderbird, you will need to add firstname.lastname@example.org to your address book, and then set up your Thunderbird Junk Mail Controls to whitelist your address book.
- First, if you find email from email@example.com in your Junk folder, right-click on our email and choose "Mark as Not Junk"
- Next, click the Address Book button
- Highlight the Personal Address Book
- Click on "New Card"
- In the "Contact" tab of the new card, copy and paste firstname.lastname@example.org to the email dialog box
- Click "Ok"
- Next, to whitelist your address book, select "Tools > Junk Mail Controls" from the drop down menu
- Update the "White Lists" module under the "Settings" tab by selecting "Personal Address Book" from the drop down menu, and then check the box next to "Do not mark messages as junk mail"
- Click "Ok"
Apple Mail for OS X
First, if email from email@example.com ends up in your junk folder, highlight or open it and click "Not Junk" at the top of your screen.
- Go to Mail > Preferences from your Mail menu
- Go to the Rules tab
- Select Add Rule
- Give this rule a name such as "Meetup"
- Create a rule that says "If any of the following conditions are met: 'From' 'Contains'" and then paste in "firstname.lastname@example.org"
- From the actions, select 'Move message' to mailbox 'Inbox'.
- Click "OK"
