I do recommend that you join the Writers' Circle at a mere HK$490 a year. This pays for the web sites, newsletters, publications and hiring of venues. The Writers Circle is non-profit making and its organisers are up for election every year. We are always looking for active members so it isn't difficult to get yourself elected on. The benefits: we have active people steering the group in directions they think appropriate and, well, the inner circle usually get the best chances of meeting other industry professionals.
