Free Travel Class: Istanbul, Turkey, and the Greek Isles

Discover affordable Istanbul! This class will cover areas of this ancient city to explore, and how to keep it all on a budget. We will also take a side trip to nearby Greece. It's easier than you think, the islands are just a hop skip and jump away. We will give special focus on the beautiful Santorini.

Us too, just returned from a 3 weeks trip to Paris, Lyon & Istanbul : I already miss my "Kokorec" and "Kelle Pacha" ! Local Tour guides said we were the "first" among the thousand tourists (in the last 20+ years) who ever asked for these local favorites (especially from the US :-) Keeping it on a budget ? We stayed in Sultanamet for walking to main sites, but usually took Metro to other areas such as Aksaray or Taksim where well-known local food joints & bargains are located, and where no other tourists were spotted. Bosphorus boat tour ? Skip the English speaking Guide, and get on Board at Eminonu for 3 euros, versus 15+ euros. Our hotel was not cheap (champagne taste :-) but we got Agency upgrade to a water view Suite. Our air tickets though were $ 960 each (taxes included) from AUS to Istanbul, to Paris, and back to AUS. All the internet sites shown $ 1400 each at the same time I issued our own E-tickets :-)...LOVE to do it again... with the like-minded :-)

Can someone tell me for certain about their parking? I've looked at their website. No mention. I've looked at Google maps; no way to tell if the large parking lot is for REI and if it has a fee.

There is tons of parking in the lot and the garage located next to REI and book people. You can park in either.

not sure I will make it back in time. my flight arrives 6 pm in Houston so I'll leave my 2 cents @ the door. if your a budget traveler looking to stretch your money for good value? skip Greece & move to Turkiye. warmer friendlier cleaner & much cheaper. Greece is still a mess...

I'm pretty sure you won't get to REI by 6:30 from Austin at 6. :) I was in both Turkey and Greece in 1986 and agree. Most of what we think as Greek is actually in Turkey. Although Meteora is amazing! and I loved the Greek people, too, once outside of Athens and other touristy places.

Is that by the count here or by REI's count? Because as you know, I cannot reply on REI's site.

I'm saying yes here as I loved Turkey, and I'm an REI member, but am not doing the RSVP there. I don't have my # handy and they require a phone #, which will confuse things.
Their RSVP shows only 1 person, so it's not accurate and more so now.
