What we’re about

The Houston Active Dogs Meetup Group is open for active, non-aggressive, well-socialized dogs of all ages and breeds. HAD Members enjoy meeting and getting together with their social canine companions! We meet at various locations - dog parks, dog-friendly restaurants taverns and events - around the Houston-area to allow our dogs to play and socialize, and to give us the opportunity to make new friends within the *HAD* Group. We are dedicated to the on-going well-being of our canine companions through socialization and recreation. Please utilize this site for an up-to-date info on, and listing of, Dog Parks in the Houston-area: http://www.houstondogpark.org/

This meetup group also lists “un-hosted” events. These may be festivals, fundraisers, dog shows or other community events that are several hours long, but you could see everything in a much shorter time. These events don’t easily lend themselves to going with a group and the same could be said of multi-day events. They are listed as “un-hosted” to let our members know about them so you can check them out on your own and go when it’s convenient for your schedule.

Don't have a dog yet? There are many great rescues and shelters in Houston. Some work with any mixed breed dog while others may focus on specific breeds. Believe it or not, there are LOTS of purebred dogs that end up in shelters and rescues.

My favorite local shelter is Friends for Life located in the Heights. Check out their webpage here: https://friends4life.org. While they typically do not take owner surrenders they are a no-kill shelter with a focus on pulling animals from other area shelters that may be listed for euthanasia based on their breed, time at the shelter, medical condition, undesirable behavior, etc.
