The Hike: The hike is  an out-and-back & strenuous. This is not for easy hikers and it's important to keep a reasonable pace to be able to return before sunset.  I'll have my GPS and will remind people if they are too slow and should perhaps head back before reaching the peak.  If we can keep an over all pace ~ 2mph we should be OK with plenty of time to enjoy the view at cloud's rest. For route details see : CLICK HERE

Parking & Meeting PointIdeally most of us will be carpooling and departing from the Yosemite Bug Hostel at 8AM.  It takes ~1:45 minutes to reach the trail head.  Its long but scenic.  If coming from your hotel or other accommodation then either meet us at the hostel to carpool or meet us at the trail head (click next to the balloon icon above for map location).  The parking lot right next to the trail head (it will be labeled as either Cloud's Rest or Sunrise TH) may be filled and so continue east on 120 till you can park on the side of the road and then walk on over.

After Hike EventFor guests of the bug, dinner back at the hostel and for others, you can try to come back with us if few but otherwise I'd recommend another place since it may be crowded at the bug.

Ha!!! I saw a bear while we were driving by the Bug Dormitory!!! It was on the side of the road tearing apart some trees! It appeared to be licking the sap out of the wood. Of course, if you know me...you know I jumped out of the car and got as close as possible to get photos and video. I'll post them when I'm not so exhausted. By the way, NEVER jump out of your car to get pics of a wild bear! I was naughty, and you should never try this at home.

I just posted some of the bear photos. The light was terrible, and I didn't have time to adjust my camera, so the photos aren't great. The video is much better, but I can't post video here. I'll get it posted on my flickr site and let you know when it's up. Sorry we couldn't join you all today, but we'll be looking at your pics when we get back to civilization! See you soon. Have fun!

Josh and I are going to play at Mono Lake today. My phone broke, but Josh's number is[masked] if anyone needs to reach us for anything...assuming we can get any kind of signal. We're setting out from Livermore in a few minutes. See you all tomorrow!!! :-)

Josh and I have been hiking and camping from San Diego to Jedediah Smith Redwoods SP since the 24th. We are sore and a little fatigued. We did stay in a hotel last night and got a good night's sleep for once, but we are still sore. Anyone who knows us...do you think we can do this hike? Thanks!

I have done this hike before- its an stunningly beautiful but a bit strenuous hike. I believe all regular HAT hikers will have no problem completing it. Bring enough water and hiking poles can help as well.

I'm definitely going to do it. I have 5 litres in reservoirs I'm bringing. I just won't be racing along the trail. As always, thanks for the encouragement, Pete!

Does the warning on the hike route map "Hiking in Tenaya Canyon is dangerous and strongly discouraged" apply to this hike?

I believe that comment is in reference to the canyon below and to discourage people from going off trail/cross-country down into this canyon because of the steep slopes. The route this trail takes goes UP and along the ridge to Cloud's Rest. Still, it'll be important to keep an eye on the weather during the day as lightning, rain, high wind, etc., could make this hike treacherous. I'm sure Hugo will be on top of this as he always is. :)

I'm on the Room & Board waiting list, but if any spots open up I'd like to make this hike.
