Night Hike at Memorial Park - 6 miles

  • Jun 6, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

My number is[masked]-0936.  Please print the map and know where you are going before you leave your house.  I cannot juggle 50 phone calls giving people step by step directions when they didn't write down how to get to the park.

It's time for another night hike, and Memorial Park beckons!  These hikes are super fun.  We've had as many as 75 members show up for the night hikes at Memorial and Terry Hershey.

These night hikes are great for first time hikers.  They are fewer miles and much cooler than some of our other hikes.  They are a good way to introduce your kids to hiking and assess their fitness level and attention span before bringing them on one of the regular hikes.  This hike is not stroller friendly...the trails are narrow and bumpy.

Dogs are welcome but must be friendly, and they must stay on a leash at all times...no exceptions.  There will be multiple dogs, so be sure they are not dog aggressive.

The place where we are meeting is noted by the "YOU ARE HERE" marker.

Where going to try out some new trails!  It will all be narrower wooded trails this time.  Yay!

Make sure to wear closed toe shoes in case you hit a tree root or two, and be sure to bring a headlamp ($12 at Academy). As long as you're investing in a headlamp, you might as well get one with red and green light options. They are easier on your eyes when using them in a camp with multiple people.

You'll also need water and a snack.

We'll grab a bite to eat afterward at Canyon Creek Cafe.  We ate there last time, and it was pretty good!  :-)  Address:  Canyon Creek Cafe, 6603 Westcott St., Houston, TX 77007

It was great. And Canyon Creek was really neat place that we went to after. I am thinking of doing it again in the next week since it's so close to me and I want to go back and get couple of pictures that I could not get last time..there is this one area that I loved but who knows if it will look the same. It was breathtaking to me. Hope to see you soon on the next one.

Jennifer enticed the largest group ever to hike into the dark unknown into the teeth of threatening weather. We nailed it and had a marvelous time. I'm looking forward to Jennifer's upload of many memorable photos.

The weather threatened and the darkness of the woods loomed over us like a bad metaphor but neither dampened our spirits and we had a great time.
