Since GPS's and google directions may be wrong, follow these direction: The park is west of Lampasas, southeast of San Saba. From the intersection of U.S. Highways 281 and 183 in Lampasas, take FM 580 west 24 miles to Bend and follow the signs 4 miles to the park entrance. From San Saba, take U.S. Highway 190 about 4 miles to FM 580 and follow the signs 13 miles to Bend; follow the signs 4 miles to the park entrance (2 miles of dirt road). The headquarters and main camping are 6 miles past the entrance on the dirt road (unmarked County Road 442). (Access road subject to flooding.) Note: No gasoline service in Bend.
The CAMPSITES: I have reserved 2 drive and 2 walk in campsites supposedly good for 36 at most (8/site) but we should plan on 6/site or 24. From the park,
Drive-in sites : "Has picnic table, fire ring, cooking grill, and lantern holder. Potable water is in the area, but not at each site. Composting toilets are located in the area. Sites are Drive up sites, approximately 150 yards from the river. NO hot showers in the park, only a cold water outdoor shower. NO hook-ups of an kind; Self contained RVs are allowed up to 30 feet. No sewage disposal facilities available. Generators must be turned off at 10pm."
Walk-in sites: "These water-only sites are 'on the river & are for Tent camping ONLY. Must Walk-in 30 yards to campsites from parking area. Has picnic table, fire ring, and lantern hook. Water in the area, not at each site. Composting toilets are located in the area. There are No hot showers in the park, only a cold water outdoor shower."
Campsite assignment will be done first come- first served from the people that made it into the yes RSVP.
Park Rules: "CHECK IN: All campers are required to check in at the park headquarters before occupying a site. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Public consumption or display of an alcoholic beverage is prohibited. PETS: Pets must be attended and on a six-foot leash at all times. Pets are not allowed in any park buildings, cabins, or shelters. Customer must provide proof of current vaccinations for each pet entering the park. FIREWOOD: Gathering of firewood is prohibited. ENTRANCE FEES: Entrance fees are in addition to Campsite or Day Use Facility fees. EXCESS VEHICLES: An excess vehicle fee will be charged for all vehicles over the limit of 2 per site. HORSES: For Parks that allow horses - All horses entering the park, must have a negative Coggins test less than 12 months old. SITE NUMBERS: Sites are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Site numbers are not assigned in advance of arrival at the park. WILDLIFE: Feeding of wildlife is prohibited."
COSTS: Its $112 total for the 4 sites and two days. It will be split evenly between attendees regardless if attending one or both nights. So if 20 people show up it will be ~$6/person.
FOOD: People should plan for the meals by the carpool or with friends. I will have a gas grill available for use along with some cooking gear. Ideally plan on Saturday and Sunday breakfast and Saturday dinner. We can have Sunday dinner on our way home.
