My poison ivy/oak just broke out yesterday. Yuck.

    October 9, 2013

  • Mark

Ok, finally I don't have to crawl up the stairs in my home. Still sore, but boy the last couple days were wicked hard. I feel great and excited to be back out and about. Thank you all again for all your support and help. See you all Saturday.
P.S. I am driving from Spring, anyone either need a ride or offering one? Thanks, Mark[masked]

Anyone else covered in poison ivy/oak/sumac from our bushwhacking adventure?

    1 · October 7, 2013

    • Beth

There was poison ivy on several trail side trees- looked to be thriving there. Hope it's not too bad for you!

      October 7, 2013

    • Ken M.

"bushwhacking adventure." A beautiful and accurate description of our Sat. hike, particularly the first half mile through the unhumanized jungle.

      1 · October 7, 2013

  • Andrea

What an adventurous hike! Great job Hugo. I had a blast.

    2 · October 6, 2013

Good to know that Sam Houston National Forest wasn't shutdown due to the government shutdown. I was concerned about that.

    October 7, 2013

  • Ken M.

Hike today was tough, challenging, and exhilarating, except for that first half mile. That first half mile through unhumanized jungle was a bad-ass grossly bear from another planet that I hope to never encounter again. Thank you to my many fellow hikers who helped and offered to help my battered bloodied body. I survived with no need for Hugo to place me on the injured-hiker-reserve list.

Somebody had to be the bloody one. I know you will be back. I think I found my new addiction.

      1 · October 6, 2013

  • Luke

Whoever paid for Andrea's and my drinks today. Thank you very much!

    2 · October 5, 2013

That was a "thank you " for helping everyone across the creek. And Sheila deserved something too for keeping us all entertained.

      3 · October 6, 2013

    • Carl J

Yes, ya'll were a big help crossing the log. How dare Hugo not tell us we has to cross that log again... Thanks huigo... It was fun.

I can offer a carpool if anyone wants. I'm leaving from the Sugarland area; If anyone is interested I can take 3 more along, and we can meet at the usual rendezvous at Herman Park (2020 Hermann Drive). Reply to this comment or send me a message if interested.

Due to the lapse in federal government funding, the U.S. Forest Service, as with other federal agencies, is closed with the exception of certain essential services. However, we will attempt to make timely updates about public health and safety on these web pages as appropriate. We sincerely regret this inconvenience. For general information on Forest Service shutdown procedures, please visit USDA’s website.

Hit return too fast - large sections of the park are open... Looks like Hugo spoke with someone at the forest as well...

      1 · October 4, 2013

    • Dave W.

The Lone Star Hiking Trail is open. Only those portions of the National Forest that charge a fee, like campgrounds, are closed for the shutdown.
