The Hike: This hike will be an out-and-back route.  For route details : CLICK HERE

Parking & Meeting Point: Park at the LSHT #11, Iron Ore, Parking Trailhead.  The above address near the balloon icon is the closest mappable road intersection and since some GPS don't seem to recognize the location address, I am putting a link to the location below.  I'll assume most are coming from 59.  Please print out directions if you tend to get lost.

I wish there had been time to snap a photo of the herd of feral pigs we saw crossing the pipeline trail. It is a rare site as they usually stay deep in the brush.

As always, people interested in giving rides or looking for a ride in the Hermann Park/Museum District area or nearby or on the way, let's meet at the community center at 2020 Hermann Drive and be ready to leave by 6:40 AM. I have room for 3 people.

Are you going to take your car regardless of how fuel-efficient other people's cars are?

      August 23, 2013

    • Hugo

Yes. Since if somebody need to be evacuated inside the forest then my Jeep may be better suited for rescue.

What is the actual address that I put in my GPS?

    Will this work:
FM 2025 & Joe West Rd
    Coldspring, TX 77331

    August 20, 2013

    • Hugo

Try that but realize that you will have to go one more mile north on FM2025 befroe you reach the trail head rd. I will be outside on 2025 to flag people in. Look for a blue jeep.

How difficult is this hike? I have not been hiking in years and want to make sure I do not over extend myself on my first "comeback" hike.

I have another event, see you next time!

Tami and I hiked the Lone Star # 16 trail today for 10.77 miles.
No rain. No mud. Beautiful day. Temperature ranged from 72 to 85 degrees. Rain started pouring on the road to Southern Star Brewery.
I got the word about the cancellation, but did not want to roll over and go back to sleep. Thought I'd give the situation a look see. We were fortunate. I commend your concern for safety. You have an entire flock to be concerned about. See you soon.

Totally understand. Lightening should not be messed with. I work ouside and we are required to "cab up", i.e. get in our trucks, for 30 minutrs after the last lightening strike anywhere in the sky.

    July 20, 2013

  • betsyelise

I was so bummed the hike was cancelled today -- though now I have more time to break in my awesome new boots. :)
I was just so jazzed about spending the day in the forest and looking for Hobbits. :)

    July 20, 2013

    • Hugo

Sorry :-( It looks like we may have been fine to do the hike but i was just not sure. next time i'll stick to my rule of thumb that the chance or rain have to be 60% or higher.
