Yeap, it was fun playing catch up until the storm poured in. Based on David's mapmyhike link below, we were on the right track in the first place until we stopped in front of the bridge. Now looking the satellite map, the entrance in the bush to cross the river seems to be where the generator is... See you next time.

For next hike, following your advice, I will start my car 30 min earlier, lol

Many thanks to those who made this a memorable first hike for me! I enjoyed the great conversations and everyone was so friendly. It was adventurous with the bonus of the rain storm. I had fun soaking up on the cool rain shower!

And you didn't finish last either! :)

Horrible weather, wondering around to find the trail..... a great way for people to connect through shared experience !

    2 · October 13

  • Ann Epstein Vickery

I'm so happy that at the ripe age of 58, I once again can find pleasure in walking in the rain and sloshing thru puddles! What a treasure.

Fun, fun, fun, I'm really sorry for the people who missed this fantastic hike! Next time it might just be again boringly hot. Some of us were actually cold a bit, toward the end, and we all were happily wading through water past cars who nearly got stuck!

    2 · October 13

  • Nomi

I really can't understand how it could rain. After all Dan brought his umbrella, and that should have prevented any moisture!
    It was great wet fun.

    1 · October 12

  • Tom

    Wet and wild

    4 · October 12

    • David

Started pouring about 3 hours in.

      2 · October 12

    • Tom

Did it rain? Boy did it rain. Like horizontal rain with vertical lighting kind of rain. You should have been there.

      3 · October 12

  • cornelia

The best hike in Houston so far for me. Loved the wild weather and the nice company and Hugo the brave!

  • Ann Epstein Vickery

Another rollicking adventure, and thank you hiking god for the rain. As always, thank you Hugo.

Thank you Hugo! I really enjoy this group. It was not my favorite places to hike. But it was definitely a memory maker :-)

OMG! What an adventure for my first time! Still laughing! :D
Linda, Holly, Rain and Princess...I won't forget you guys AT ALL! Some short cut, right? Blinding rain, thunder, questionable routes, my falling on my face in the mud and falling 3x more! My body hurts! This Meetup was da' bomb! And I met the nicest people, for sure. I will go again...but no glitter backpack and better shoes next time. :D

I came out earlier and did a couple of loops for 8 miles. Think you might have a hard time getting 10 miles in.

    1 · October 12

  • Hugo

The hike is on. Chance of rain remained at 50%. Just bring rain in case.

    4 · October 12

  • Dan Price

I will be bringing an umbrella, open to share, not with Hugo or any other men though...

    October 11

    • Dan Price

Sorry...you can cozy up to whatever floats your boat, I could care less.

      1 · October 11

    • Dan Price

For all I know Tracey you may need a blankee to cozy up with... :-)

      October 11

  • Hugo

In regards to rain - the rule of thumb that I will try to stick to is that if the chance of rain is at 60% or more (in the link given) on the morning of the hike then its gets cancelled. As of right now its 50% and so the hike is on. I will have another update early tomorrow morning.

Aside from our legs, our rain jackets are probably due for a workout! And some of us may actually like being in a forest in the rain.

      8 · October 11

    • Carl J

I would love to hike in the rain. I just don't want the hike to be cancelled on short notice. Then not only do I miss a perfectly good hike in the mud, but I also have a loss of income.

      2 · October 11

  • Lili Rubin

Sorry have to cancel -something has come up - looking forward to joining you on the next hike

    October 11

  • Carl J

Think I may back out now. I decided work a few hours and make so money. I'll play in the rain and stomp in the puddles with my 9 year old daughter instead! I'll be ready for the next hike.

    2 · October 11

  • Tracey

May have to work tomorrow so updating to No just in case I forget and get a dreaded "No Show." :)

    October 11

    • Beth

Ha- I may be in the same boat if they don't let me back across the border. ;) Looking forward to a very long customs line today...

      1 · October 11

  • Carl J

So, I may get the chance to play in the rain and stomp in the mud puddles? Sounds like fun to me.

    1 · October 11

  • Holly

I well be bringing a guest with little legs. Our goal is to make it at least half way.

This hike will be in a park, so it is more like a 'walk in the park' than our last outing which was in the gorgeous national forest. All fun...

    1 · October 11

  • Karla

Looking forward to it (barring any bad weather)!

This will be my first hike! Nervous, but am sure I'm in good hands. ;) Question: I don't have a proper backpack for hiking...does anyone have one I can borrow??

    1 · October 8

    • Hugo

These hikes are not hardcore and so backpacks are not required. All you need is a fanny-pack or a simple day pack with enough room to carry 2 large bottles (~2x1Liter) of water and a mid-hike snack. They sell very cheap day-packs at places like Target or Walmart that are good enough for these hikes.

  • Betsy Believe

This would be my first hike with this group if I go. (Dumb question) - what do the hikers do for a restroom stop as this is approximately 3 hours ?

    October 7

    • Hugo

haha. yes you are right :-)

      October 9

    • Carl J

So that's what there doing when they wander off a bit. hmmm!

      1 · October 9

  • Lili Rubin

I am very much for the shortcut - lets try to connect before the hike..

    October 9

  • Liz

Christa and Lili, I am interested in taking a short cut.
Ok to join in? This is my first hike with the group.
    Liz

    October 9

  • Lili Rubin

Hey Hugo. This is my first hike with the group and I am not sure if I can do the whole thing. Can I do only a part of a hike - can I return in the middle of it? Thank you, Lili

    October 2

    • Hugo

yes. there are various short cuts.

      October 2

    • Christa

Lili this is my first hike too, maybe we could pal up and support each other and take a short cut if needed.

      October 9

  • Betsy Believe

Also, will there be any hassles due to the government shutdown (didn't this include the parks) ?

    October 7

    • Hugo

This is a city/county park and not federal. So no effect on these kind of parks.

      October 8

  • Molly

Looking forward to the hike. If anyone would like to carpool from NW Houston, let me know. :)

    October 8

  • Matthew Cash

I think this is getting popular. Already 82 people rsvpd

Hey Hugo, what is the rating on this trail? beginner, intermediate, etc

    October 6

    • Hugo

ratings are relative. In your case I would have to say that all of my hikes are advanced ;-) However this hike is easier than the last one you did. Also there will be shortcut point that I may recommend for you.

    • Mark

Nice, thank you. See you Saturday

      October 7
