  • This location is shown only to members

The Hike: We will slightly overlap with trails we did at Meyer Park last time but then we explore the trails to the east of Donald Collins Parks. On the route trail map, CLICK HERE, we will first do the blue arrow-hash tracks, followed by the red, and finally the yellow.

My phone in case you get lost:[masked]

Gathering Place:  We'll be parking and gathering at the innermost parking lot inside of  Donald R. Collins Park.  The group should be visible at the lot or somewhere in the shade.

This the 4th bayou we take on in our pursuit to explore the trails and parks on and near the 10 bayous that define hiking in Houston. For a list of the bayous: CLICK HERE.

For this bayou, it is the 5th of  ~7 hikes doing Cypress Creek from West to East. For our  progress so far CLICK HERE.

    November 1, 2013

If we go to a state park you might need to pay the fee to get in unless you have a park pass. No park pass and its 7-8 per person in the car. Park pass is 70 for a year and one covers everyone in a car.
When we go to a state park just hitup someone who carpools and has one, get in free.

As always, people interested in giving rides or looking for a ride in the Hermann Park/Museum District area or nearby or on the way, let's meet at the community center at 2020 Hermann Drive and be ready to leave by 10AM. If I am not full with my regular carpoolers, then I may have room.

I may have to "back out" of this hike, I stabbed myself in my right buttock with a steak knife. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the ASI ( American Society of Idiots). The doctor said I shouldn't go, but I am an idiot!

Make sure you bring rain gear, cause whenever I go, I make it rain.
Except the last hike, that was really nice.

    October 30, 2013

    • Beth

It's true... Nickname options "rainmaker" (too obvious?)...or "lightning"since it seems you bring that too... or "thor"

I am very excited about this hike. I am doing it with my daughters.

    October 30, 2013

Hugo - do you know what these trails are like after a heavy rain? I've ridden along the creek close to this area on horseback before -wondering how these trails will be impacted if we get the rain that's forecast in the next couple of days. Thoughts?

    October 30, 2013

    • Hugo

never been on half of these trails. It may or may not be muddy but it does not matter since hike is on either way. Mud is easy to wash away :-)

um... not a hiker at all. Haven't really been outdoorsy for a long time, any advice on what I should bring this Saturday??

    1 · October 28, 2013

    • Ingrid

Ok. Thanks. I'm sure I will be crawling towards the end.

      October 29, 2013

    • Matthew C.

Theres usually short cuts, or as i like to call them weakcuts, in the path in case you need to leave early.

      2 · October 29, 2013

  • Ken M.

Sandy and I are RSVPs 100 and 101.

I think this hike (weather cooperating) will set an all-time attendance record.

It will be wonderful to be a part of this record-setting event. As always, there's plenty of room on the trail for everyone.

    October 29, 2013

    • jtbrogan

Ken, just watch out for those mountain bikers...seriously!

      October 29, 2013

Hugo, Can I meet up with you and follow you to the place? I won't be able to carpool this time since my friend and I will only hike a portion of the trail. Thank you.

    • Hugo

      OK.

      October 29, 2013

Are there really 96 people going to hike on Saturday?

    October 29, 2013

    • Hugo

      probably ~60.

      October 29, 2013

  • jtbrogan

These are excellent trails, but note that much of the route along Cypress Creek is maintained by GHORBA (Greater Houston Off-Road Biking Association) and is VERY popular with mountain bikers, especially during the weekends. Of course, hikers are allowed on the trails anytime, but you'll need to be careful and continually call out your presence to avoid being run over on blind corners. Our Boy Scout Troop regularly trained for a 2-week backpacking trip along these trails, but we left the parking lot at dawn-thirty and were done by the time most bikers hit the trail.

    1 · October 28, 2013

    • Tara

Horseback riders LOVE the work GHORBA does to maintain the various trails along the creek. No matter how hard we try, we just can't bring our chainsaws out on horseback to maintain the trails. :-)

      October 28, 2013

  • Carl J

missed the last couple of hikes. I am lookng forward to the hike.
