H.A.T.s _49_2013 Lost Maples SNA ~10-11mi

The Hike: We will be doing the main outer loop of the park in a counter clockwise route and this will include the West Loop Trail . For those that have not been doing our weekly hikes this may be a challenge (rocky and a lot of up and down elevation gains).  So if you want to do this hike without too much pain then start getting in shape by doing the weekly hikes or some other type of fitness beginning now.  For the route map: CLICK HERE.

Gathering Place:  After entering the park stay to your left on the main park road.  Go past the campsite entrance on your right and then at the next road fork make a left and park at the East Trailhead parking lot.  See the hike map above to get an idea of the location.  We should be visible at the lot.

My GPS gave a total ascent of 1038 feet, for those of us that did not do the last loop up the hill.

The first climb up from the Sabinal River was 330 feet vertical.

Vertical being the operative word! Thanks for sharing your GPS info.....

Okay, one last comment, maybe. It's difficult to put into words what this group has meant to a 58 year old woman who kind of gave up several years ago on many things at many different levels. I'm doing things that were previously unimaginable. And this particular trip would have not been such a success had it not been for the kindness of strangers who I now consider friends (you know who you are). Thank you Hugo and Jennifer (houston/Austin Hiking) for quietly and unassumingly leading me back to life.

We just finished eating. I had the cheesy bread appetizer as my meal. It was delicious and can feed at least 2 people. It's like having a huge super cheesy French bread pizza.

Cannot make it to the park by 9 am unless driving up there the day before. I skip this time and please ignore my carpool message for Northwest area.

Is there anyone from Northwest area? I am interested in carpool and will pay for gas/fees.

For anyone with a Garmin (or other brand) GPSr that can use custom maps, here is a KMZ file with the park trails and intended route for this hike.

Hugo, I will be bringing a group of TOWN women there this same weekend. I have never been to the park but have excellent outdoor experience. May we join you all in a hike? We will be backpacking and already have our own sites.
