For the last time we explored this park: CLICK HERE

The Hike: Starting from the parking lot, we first take  the Dogwood trail to connect with the Chinquapin Trail and then we do that loop counterclockwise for ~ 6.5 mi.  After finishing that loop we come back on the Dogwood Trail to connect with Prairie Branch Loop and do that clockwise before taking and finishing the Dogwood Trail on the way back to the parking lot.  For route details: CLICK HERE

Gathering Place:  After entering the park and paying the entry fee ($5) or showing your state park pass, proceed on the main road until it wraps to the left and ends at the main and largest parking lot for the park.  The group should be visible at that lot somewhere there or near the restrooms.  Look at the hiking map to get better feel of the parking and start of hike location.

Had a great hike with you all. Well worth the drive on from Lufkin!

Janet, I am going to attend the hike on Sat. You could park at the Livingston Walmart and I'll drive. I know Gene would like to car pool from Deer Brook Mall. We will have to coordinate time.

      January 22, 2014

    • Janet

Sounds like a plan. I'd love to meet you in Livingston and meet up with Gene and others at Deerbrook Mall. Thx, Bonnie. Glad you're going!

  • Carl J

Didnt RSVP yet, I am 90% sure I will be there .Anybody out west here Dairy Ashord and I-10 would be just fine giving a ride... I used used 1/4 tank of gas driving fron Dairy Ashford to Brazos Bend, then to Burger Barn, the back to sugarland and then home to I-10 and Dairy Ashford. How is that for gas mileage? On top of that, with 4 people in the little Honda Fit, we had interesting conversation.

I have 1 big blister even though I wore wool socks and had good shoes on.

    January 18, 2014

    • Kelli G.

Have you tried Smartwool socks? They are a single layer wool sock that does not require a liner. This gives you more room in your shoe. The are also very comfy.

Hello! I am in the Med Center, near Fannin and 610. I am interested in carpooling. Does anyone in the area have space in their car?

Hey guys... I've been asked to write a story for a publication about H.A.T.s...One of my many hobbies is a freelance amature writer. I know with all my grammatical errors, it may not seem like it. That's because whisky is another hobby of mine... Anyway, I need somebody with a good camera. I want Hugo in the pic as well as a few others to show the diversity of our group. Hugo, I also want a quote from you for the story. So think about something to say.

    4 · January 18, 2014

    • Dan

Some food for thoughts: Should be sure and show the Cosmo Blue Truck in picture. We have lots of diversity to choose from :))

I have a decent camera. Also carry a tripod if you want to try for a large group photo with forest background. If I ride with you dont let me forget to take it from the trunk. Just in case..... Also many people take photos along the trail, might ask for donations of their 'best shots'. See you in a bit.

Just went out to my car and it is completely dead. Nothing...nada...I have to stay home and get it fixed. This would have been my first outing with you guys. Very sad :(

May- I do help many people with knee injuries. A S long as you didnt tear your ACL. It doesnt seem like you did because it it feeling better. It would be best to avoid the 10 mile hike, let it rest, alternate hot and cold (no mre than 15 minute Intervals, and exercise the knee a little...walking short distances, and a fee shots of Crown Royal to help with pain. If any movement causes pain, back off. You may need so triggerpoint therapy or myofascial release next week. Try the above first

    1 · January 16, 2014

    • Carl J

Joking about the Crown...Woodford Reserve is much better

If my new blisters are healed I like to try again on a long distance walk. Have never had so much trouble with my shoes before. Will buy new this week and break them in a bit. Anyone have brand/ styles they recommend?

    January 5, 2014

    • David

I bought a pair of Danner's around Christmas at Gander Mountain, along with some insoles. The Danner (spelling) is supposed to be the best hiking shoes for your money and I paid about $160.00 for them. A good investment. Problem is the inserts were a mistake because they did not give my toes enough room to move around and actually caused a bruise on my right toe. This time I am replacing them with the ones that came with the shoes.

I bought Merrill at the same store, will see. I will walk slower, stay with the mid group instead of the front. And will take a pair of sandles to change if it gets bad like last walk. I think with inserts you need a 1/2 size larger show. Anyway won't give up. See you Saturday.
