A WORD OF CAUTION ON THESE URBAN BAYOU HIKES: WILD ANIMALS MAY BE LESS OF A RISK BUT HUMAN ANIMALS ARE NOT, ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF VALUABLES LEFT OUT ON THE OPEN IN YOU CARS OR WHO SEE YOU PUTTING THEM IN YOUR TRUNK.  SO PLEASE DON'T BRING VALUABLES AND IF YOU DO, TAKE THEM WITH YOU ON THE HIKE.

The Hike: From Townwood Park, we will start the hike on the north side of Sims Bayou heading east  (red route on the hike map, CLICK HERE) to past HWY 288 for ~.5mi.  Then we switch to the southern side of the bayou, where possible, for our return back to Townwood Park (blue route on hike map).

This the 5th bayou we take on in our pursuit to explore the trails and parks on and near the 10 bayous that define hiking in Houston. For a list of the bayous: CLICK HERE.

For this bayou, this is the 2nd of about 4 hikes doing Sims Bayou from West to East. For our progress so far CLICK HERE.

Gathering Place:  As you enter the park (click on the ballon icon location above), make a right into the first large parking lot you see.  The group should be visible at the lot or somewhere in the shade.

I enjoyed it. It was great getting out in such beautiful weather. It afforded me a unique vantage point outside of driving the area. I will be back.

I'm a newbie... What do the ladies usually do for restroom breaks? :)

    1 · January 25, 2014

    • Dan

3-4 hour hike with restroom at start and end. Normally options for returning early in the event of emergency. Tree breaks in urban environments for women are not normally recommended.

Another Hugo favorite for after hiking. Yes you guessed it they have BEER. Does indicate personal pizzas are available, but no info on types. No menu except beer.

Another tidbit from their website below:

Groups of 10 or more will be subject to a 10% minimum tip and clean-up charge (do you enjoy cleaning up after a party?)

Looks like they are creating a reward for being anti-social...

    1 · January 25, 2014

    • Hugo

There is a Dominos next door where we can order pizza and pick-up. Once we know who shows up then we can order based on preferences and #s.

As always, people interested in giving rides or looking for a ride in the Hermann Park/Museum District area or nearby or on the way, let's meet at the community center at 2020 Hermann Drive at 10:25AM and be ready to leave by 10:30AM. If I am not full with my regular carpoolers, then I may have room.
