H.A.T.s _20_2014 Lone Star Trail Hike #1 ~9mi/500ft

BEWARE THAT THE I45 PART OF FM1375 ROUTE  IS CLOSED. SO TRY AN  ALTERNATE ROUTE LIKE THE ONE I INDICATE BELOW.

                              AND SO IT BEGINS AGAIN.

FOR HOW WE DID IT LAST TIME, CLICK HERE.

This Hike:  We will do the LSHT trail portion between TH parking #'s 1 to 2.  But to get to a ~9mi mileage we will co-opt part of FS 211 and a lot of the Little Lake Creek Loop Trail.  For our planned route map, CLICK HERE, and follow the yellow hashes and arrows.

Gathering Place:  Drive to the LSHT #1 Richards Trailhead parking lot.  The bridge on 1375 over I45. My plan is to take 105 West from I45 at Conroe then right at the Lone Star Parkway to connect with 149 that will take me to the parking lot.  My driving route is here: https://goo.gl/maps/0HEop

The parking lot is a small lot and so some people will have to park on the roadside nearby.  Click the ballon icon above to determine directions from your your location (avoiding 1375 bridge over Lake Conroe).  Please make sure to review map route and compare with the hike map to make sure it makes sense to you and so that you don't get lost.

It's 9:00pm and I am at the trail head now. There is little to no wind so be sure and bring plenty of water.

Fm 1375 over I 45 is closed. Bridge over the lake is open.

Is it the FM 1375 bridge over IH 45 or the FM 1375 bridge over Lake Conroe that is closed?

    August 15

    • Li

I just called Sam Houston National Forest at (936)[masked] and confirmed it is the FM 1375 bridge over IH 45 that is closed. FM 1375 and the bridge over Lake Conroe is open. By turning around at FM 1374, we can get to FM 1375 with less than 2 miles added. Therefore, it should be no big deal.

Can we meet at the usual Herman park location?

One more thing- You may want to stop at a gas station or somewhere on the way to take care of your restroom visit. There are no restrooms, I think, at this parking lot.

Hugo, I just read that the FM Bridge 1375 is closed indefinitely as of today. They suggest taking the frontage road to FM 1374 however that is further north and looks like a much longer journey. Personall, I plan on taking the Texas 105 exit in Conroe heading west, then the Lone Star Parkway then up FM149 to Forest Rd 129 to the LSHT Trailhead #1. I feel this is a good route coming from Houston. See what you think. We might have a lot of late comers if we don't offer some good alternatives to the closed FM1375 bridge.

    • Li

Turning around at 1374 and back to 1375 should add less than 2 miles. Exiting at 105 and taking 105 and 149 will be a shorter route(about 6 miles shorter), but it will not get there sooner. Either one is fine to me.

Hi, all. Trying to access the hike route map. I keep getting rejected with the message "You don't have permission to that." Logged on and everything... Thoughts? Thank you.

    • Hugo

Try again. I opened up permissions.

    Is anyone carpooling from Houston?

I would like to meet somewhere in Houston and carpool to the location. I can either go or not go to the after hike event. I am flexible.

I am in Texas City so if anyone wants to start in that area all the better.

  • Dana S.

If you're coming from Houston up I45 to the 1375 exit, the bridge over 45 is scheduled to be closed beginning 8/14/14.

I assume they will have a detour onto the 1374 crossing; shouldn't add too much time to the drive. We should know more Thursday.

Thanks for the heads up, Dana.

I am hoping to make enough hikes in this cycle to have walked the complete trail. We'll see.
