As yoga continues to spread its wings in America, a component of the ancient tradition is emerging as part of the new spiritual music movement. It is called Kirtan, which means "people coming together to be in the presence of God”. A Kirtan is a group gathering where sacred mantras are sung in a call and response style.
This group promotes Kirtan, Devotional Chanting and Bhakti Yoga events in Houston. This group is for people who love Kirtan or for anyone who is curious about it. Those who haven't yet experienced Kirtan, but are interested in spirituality, yoga, meditation, music, etc. are welcome to join the group and check it out.
If you enjoy the music of Krishna Das, Snatam Kaur, David Newman, Deva Premal, Dave Stringer, Sat Purkh or other chant artists, then this group is definitely for you! These devotional "Chant Artists" blend western musical sounds and styles with ancient Sanskrit healing mantras and are serving to grow the awareness of Bhakti Yoga.
Bhakti yoga is the yoga of love and devotion. Kirtan, an ancient practice of Bhatki yoga offers the soul a joyous, ecstatic way to easily open the heart and connect directly to the Divine. This group gathers to sing and chant sacred mantras and to celebrate our love of the Divine.
