Chinese Dim Sum Brunch

Join your fellow meetup members for an authentic Chinese dim sum experience!

We are going at 11AM because they will give us a 10% discount off the bill before noon.

About the restaurant and dim sum:

The restaurant is in the heart of Houston's Asian shopping and dining area.
We will be enjoying traditional dim sum, which consists of small servings of foods that are pushed around the dining area on carts. Point to the items you want off the cart and share them with the folks at your table! This is a communal experience that is all about tasting and sharing. (Remember, we will split the bill evenly at the end.)

We will have meetup signs on the tables.
This is a large restaurant with 2 floors, so make sure you look upstairs and downstairs.

Payment -IMPORTANT!
We will NOT get separate checks! They will NOT split charges to different credit cards either!
Bring CASH ONLY! Smaller bills would be helpful.
To make things easier, the tab will be split evenly among everyone at your table.
I have been informed by Avery, the previous host of this event, that it will probably come to around $15-$20 per person.

RSVPs and Attendance:
Effective 11/4/09, the "maybe" RSVP option has been disabled. Anyone who is a "maybe" RSVP, please update your RSVP ASAP. If you are still signed up as a "maybe" on Saturday afternoon, your RSVP will be removed, and you will have to sign up again as a "yes" if you want to attend.

If you have RSVPd "yes" but need to cancel after 10AM the morning of the event, please call or text the host (Amanda) at 832-405-9160. This way we won't be holding extra seats, delaying our orders, and worrying.

If you are going to be more than 15 minutes late, please call or text me so we know whether to keep holding you a seat. This is a very busy restaurant and they will need our unused seats for the other patrons.

Lunch at Fogo de Chao (Brazilian barbecue buffet) (multi-meetup)

Staying in town Thanksgiving weekend?
Have you been wanting to try Fogo de Chao but don't want to pay $48.50 for dinner?
Then come on out to lunch with us!

Since lunch is served only on weekdays, the Friday after thanksgiving is a good time to go, since a lot of us are off work that day. Besides, our stomachs will be all stretched out from Thanksgiving, and we'll all be sick of turkey leftovers!

Prices:
The weekday lunch buffet features the same delicious selection of grilled meats and a huge buffet and salad bar, but it's only $32.50 per person (plus tax & tip)! If you want the buffet only (no grilled meats) it's just $22.50 (plus tax & tip).

Fogo de Chao is a Brazilian restaurant that features the traditional Gaucho "churrasco" style of cooking meats over open-fire pits. They use good-quality ingredients and the preparation and recipes are excellent! Website is http://www.fogodechao.com/
Restaurant is on Westheimer between Fondren and Voss, just 2 1/2 miles west of The Galleria.
Lunch is served until 2PM.

What to expect:
When you are first seated, you can hit the buffet. The large buffet has lots of different kinds of salads, cold meats and seafoods, fruit, vegetables, hot soup, and side dishes. Once you've filled your plate, go back to your table and wait for the meat!

At the table, you are given a card that is painted red and green. Green means "Bring me meat!" and red means "Stop! I have had enough meat!" The waiters will come around to each table with different kinds of meat on skewers, which they'll slice onto your plate. They have various kinds of beef, pork, lamp, chicken, turkey wrapped in bacon, etc. They'll keep coming by until you flip your wooden thingy to the red side.

Alcoholic drinks cost extra and so does dessert. They have an excellent wine list and a full bar. If you want, you can try the Brazilian national drink, a caipirinha! It's kind of like a mojito, with rum, sugar and lime.

They WILL give us separate checks. We just need to tell them at the beginning of the meal. Remember, drinks and dessert are extra!

RSVP policy:
The "maybe" RSVP option will be removed on 11/25 and all "maybe" RSVPs will be removed. If you don't update your "maybe" RSVP by 11/25, then you must RSVP all over again.
