Intermediate. I've been studying genealogy for four years. My maternal grandmother was a DAR member and I inherited a lot of material on my mother's side.
I subscribe to ancestry.com for census data, draft registrations, immigration records, birth records, marriage records and SSDI. I use various GenWeb sites, findagrave.com, Google Books (particularly 19th century town and county history books and published family histories), New England town vital records, etc. I use Google searches to find obituary records and miscellaneous bits of history. I have some trees on ancestry.com, but I also publish on my own web site using phpGEDview. I have participated in the Thomas surname project through Family Tree DNA (my paternal line is stuck at my ggg-grandfather). Through FTDNA, I've made contact with two "genetic cousins", one with a known common ancestor and one not.
I'm a BSEE graduate from Southern Tech (now SPST) in Georgia. Designed integrated circuits for Texas Instruments for 30 years. I now compose and record music. My wife, Deborah Reed, is Julie's fourth cousin--their MRCA is Zachariah Lewis MAIN, Sr.
