Seven Programming Languages in Seven Weeks Part 01: Ruby

*** IMPORTANT UPDATE ***

This meeting has to be rescheduled due to a conflict at START Houston. As of now, I'm just moving it to next month's meeting slot as with two days notice I'm not sure I can move everything around enough to make find a date in February.

The new date for this meetup is March 7, 2013.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

*** Original Text ***

This month we start going through the book "Seven Languages in Seven Weeks" and we'll be starting with the programming language Ruby.

Presenting the Ruby language and all it has to offer you is none other than Houston's own Jesse Wolgamott (@jwo). Jesse runs (among other things) the Ruby Off Rails training.

If you already own a copy of this book, please bring it. If you don't have a copy, I'll have some extras to give out. I'll be getting a few each month that we do a language from this book, so hopefully everyone has a copy by the time we're done.

Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Join us as we start our journey to learning about several new languages.

Thank you for the Ruby tidbits! It was great to see Ruby's characteristics without Rails.

Clojure, Haskell, Io, Prolog, Scala, Erlang, and Ruby
Scala is coming very profitable and so is Ruby
The rest, in my opinion, where used in the academic world

I've sent out another reminder. Adding a similar note here. If you find you can't make it to the meeting please change your RSVP status accordingly by 12pm on Thursday, so that I can have an accurate headcount with which to order food. Than kyou.

Will you have plenty of copies of the book or should we order online?

    March 1, 2013

Apparently the book is hard to find. You can get the Kindle version from Amazon. I've ordered them from O'Reilly but it doesn't look like they'll come in before Thursday (given I ordered them in early January).

:-( Will wait for next month then. I was hoping we could've worked it out this week. Of course, I responded to a bit bucket earlier.

Darn. Well next time let me know. I work for Platform Houston now so we can possibly use that as needed. You guys are welcome to come by anyways. Lots of great stuff coming up that I can share.

I definitely interested in this because I bought the book a while ago and never had chance to read it. Thank you for setting this up!

Is there any possible way we can stream this meetup? I will be in a hotel room in Dallas that night. I'd really love to attend, or see this session.
