Excursion - Dimond Knoll Archaeology Site
Saturday, August 17, 2013 - 08:00 AM
The Dimond Knoll site was discovered in 1996 by a team of archeologists during the initial cultural resources survey on behalf of TxDOT for the Grand Parkway. In 2012 TxDOT sponsored extensive data-recovery investigations at the site, discovering it had been visited regularly by mobile hunting groups for nearly ten millennia, with artifacts spanning the Late Paleoindian period (ca. 8000 BC) through the Late Prehistoric (ca. 1500 AD). Join HMNS for a hands-on opportunity to work with archeologists and screen sediments collected from the site for artifacts. This is a unique chance to actively participate in the discovery of Houston's rich prehistoric past with TxDOT and the Houston Archeological Society
