hey Ian thanks for the info-

However, I would like to point out that I want this meetup to focus on Science (as part of the Science Cafe movement see:?http://www.sciencecafes.org/what.html) - I would like everyone to refrain ?from discussing politics directly in this forum - and any emails should be about the meetup itself, new suggestions or ?SCIENCE ?and the promotion of Science related topics. I hope I am not being too draconian, sorry!

Thanks...hope to see you all at the meetup!
Ahmed

Hello Everyone~

I am very happy to see this is the topic of the meetup. I know a lot of people working with NASA are losing their jobs already, and are very upset about Obama's arrogant decision to write off America's manned presence in space. I am very active with groups, such as the Kesha Rogers for Congress campaign (TX-22) in lobbying and organizing to force a reversal this decision, puttin forward a science-driver proposal to colonize the Moon and Mars.

As part of this, I was invited to join another forum, which I will pass on to you all. The address is www.savenasa.ning.com and it has people from all over the USA and also the world. It's not very active yet, but I'm actually putting together a meetup through that group, which is posted here: http://savenasa.ning.com/forum/topics/we-need-a-plan-of-action?xg_source=activity

I don't mean to basely preempt or undermine our meetup by posting this one, but I just wanted to put this on the table since it is happening anyway, and I realize this group here has some real potential. It's a lunch meetup at the Fuddrucker's across the street from JSC, this Wednesday, the 31st of March from noon to 1pm.

First Meetup!

Come party at this new Science Cafe in Houston...get together over chips and salsa and drinks at Last Concert Cafe and talk about the Science and the Space Program..

Welcome to all the new members! -this is the first meetup of the group!

I recently confirmed Last Concert Cafe as our meetup venue... I reserved us for the second Tuesday of the month, starting at 8pm, so I'm planning to have the first meetup on April 13th
check out the blog for updates as well...looking forward to seeing you all!

Venue:Last Concert Cafe
Time : April 13th[masked]pm

Topic: First Meetup Introduction and Ideas, Space Science and the future of the space program as it affects us in Houston

General Format: Ideally, I'd like to have a brief speaker session, a brief arts interlude, and Q&A and discussion session...we can organize it further as it goes along.. I don't wan't to discuss politics or fringe science or marketing and business, so be warned.

Disclaimer: Any opinions on this site/meetup or from myself are entirely my own as a private citizen and do not imply any corporate or governmental endorsement. I am interested in promoting real science not discussing politics, religion (or UFOs or other fringe 'sciences')...so for example SETI is a welcome topic, but Alien Abductions are not! (I'm sure theres an alien abduction group y'all can join for that :)
