What is Wellness? What is Health? Whose responsibility is it to maintain health and achieve wellness?
With the healthcare industry in the national spotlight, many of us are questioning the efficiency of our country's medical diagnosis and treatment system. The healthcare cost in the U.S. is the highest in the world, yet our life expectancy is ranked 50th in the world, and the overall health level at 72nd. Just look around us. Obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are on the rise across the age groups. Chronically ill children have grown up to be chronically ill adults. No doubt, our healthcare system is failing us. Too much emphasis is put on sickness. As a matter of fact, 93% of healthcare dollars are spent on treating illnesses while only 7% on prevention.
Many of us are finally pushed to look at alternative options. With the Internet, resources to make sound decisions surrounding our well-being are now available to everyone. The truth is that each of us has the power within to achieve wellness. By taking good care of ourselves and including exercise and supplementation in our daily regimen, we can reduce in likelihood of common issues and illnesses. Examine our lifestyle and behavior. Every day are we building health or producing disease in ourselves? The choices we make over the course of our daily routine affect our overall wellness.
