Lets critique & have some fun doing it. Patty, Heather, Tina, Andrew- presenters

Presenters for this meetup are

1) John
2) Patty
3) Tina
4) Andrew
Pls bring upto 2000 words in 12 font double spaced (and pages numbered please) copies for everyone.

Please upload your work on this site. Go to More-- File-- add a file. For the sake our Mac users please upload a .pdf or .rtf file.

It is not compulsory to upload your work here but it does help some people to critique at home. This will allow for you to get more thourough critiques from them. The sooner you can upload the better.

I am uploading my format on the website but you DONOT have to use it.

Thx and keep writing.

Nice group of writers, the content and comments were appropriate and the tone of the group as a whole came across as friends on a professional level.

How cool is this, I have images of Edna, Mrs. M, Sam, and Tim running through my mind. You guys rocked it tonight! Thanks for letting me be a part of the process.

    Hi all,
I have printed out 17 copies - it is the entire short story, even though I will only be reading the first half tonight. See you soon,

Good morning everyone! I finally uploaded my file. So sorry for it being so late, but I had a crazy couple of weeks, the good news is that it's only 6 pages (1650 words and change), and I'll bring printouts for everyone just in case. If anyone reads it before hand, feel free to rip it to shreds. I want to know all of your thoughts and honest opinions, even if one is "I hate it," just let me know why. Also, I have problems with tense, run-on sentences, and POV in my own writing so keep that in mind when you're reading. If anyone has any probs during the day, let me know, and I can email a PDF to you. Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight, and getting some quality feedback.

    Cheers,
    H

I prefer to observe on my 1st meet up with any group, but I will participate if needed. However, I am a green writer and also prefer not to waste paper, so I ask: Can these docs be read online? Does anyone use Google docs? It is a very good program for editing and collaboration, google docs works w/ PC & Mac, and it totally 86's the need for printing or downloading. I use it all the time in the script world, mainly because I collab with people in other states, and I can lock people out of my document when they are done with their end of the project.
I look forward to meeting with such great talent.

Kristy, Appreciate your concern not to waste paper. I have the very same thoughts. However since we just started we are going through establishing the critiquing process etc. Yes these documents can be read online and comments posted online too. At the meetup we just want to see how the reader presents work and how it flows when we read and give our comments. You are welcome to just observe and not comment if you please. Our goal is to collectively make everyones writing better by a collaborative effort.

Ok sounds good. I will try to look at them online. I am glad to finally find a new writers group, especially for this purpose because it is super important that our writing is reader friendly before sending it to editors. Hearing the words outside of our heads is a better way than having an expensive editor 'grade our paper' so to speak. Can't wait. Im jazzed!

    Guys,
Tina, Patty and Andrew have uploaded their documents (Heather is next). I encourage you to take some time and critique their works before we get to the meetup. This way our critiques will be more detailed and we can respond to the actual reading and tone when we are at the meetup. Gives more time for discussion.
Remember the better we critique the better everybody's writing gets. It's a group effort.

Hey Patrick, We are all aspiring writers. We try to make constructive suggestions/criticisms to make everyones writing better. You can preface your reading by telling us what you are looking to get out of the critiques in terms of in-depth/POV/Characterization/Interesting/Grammar or anything you seek. You will get a feel of it when you attend our next meetup. In the meanwhile I would encourage you to go to the more tab on top of this page and then to files... to check out some helpful hints.
